Anyone here listen to Beck? I've been listening to Sea Change a lot today, an album that failed to impress me at first, but now I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It's gloomy, but oh, such lovely gloom. Nigel Goodrich' production is spot on, and Beck's songwriting is moving stuff.

What is with you Josh?  First, you admit to liking REM's "Reveal" and then this.

Umm...err...I agree with you on both counts.   Wink

Dude, Reveal is, like, one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. REM is my second favorite band, and Reveal is my favorite record from them.

Beck is not nearly as cool, but Sea Change is good stuff.

Reveal- 5 stars
Sea Change- 4 stars

Eh, I'd say they're both 4 star albums, but I don't give "Reveal" the very highest rating for an REM album.  I think "New Adventures" and "Automatic" are a tad better, both 5 star albums IMO.  Beck has his own album that pushes the perfection envelope called "Odelay!".  If you don't have that one, check it out.

Okay, time to pull out the REM ratings:

Reveal- 5 out of 5
Up- 4
New Adventures- 4.5
Monster- 4
Automatic- 4.5
Out of Time- 4.5
Green- 4
Document- 4
Life's Rich Pageant- 4 (though better than Green and Document)

Amazon's auto recommender has been pushing Sea Change for a while.  Maybe I should try to hear some of its songs.....

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:

Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

Sea Change is slow and gloomy, but it's a rewarding album for patient listeners.
