This Thursday, my mom is having an operation on her thyroid glands. There is a possibility of thyroid cancer, and they might have to be totally removed.

All prayer for her and for my family will be greatly appreciated.  Smiley

I'll keep her in my prayers. Give my best to your family (especially Merriweather Wink). My mom had her thyroid removed about 10 years ago, so if she wants to talk to someone who's been through a bit of what she may be experiencing, she can feel free to call here.

Oh, wow...

In addition to the thyroid thing, my mom is apparently having her gallbladder removed tomorrow, as well.

I knew that she was having both procedures done, but I didn't realize they would occur on the same day!

Thanks for all the prayers.

The surgery went well.

The thyroid turned out to be cancerous, so they had to remove the entire thing, but the doctors feel pretty confident that my mom will be just fine once she has some time to recover.

Thanks for the prayers, and keep 'em coming!

Good to hear the surgery went well. It's a fairly common procedure to have both the thyroid gland and gallbladder removed at the same time (I think their problems are often closely related). My secretary at work just went through the same operation. I'll pray for your mom's recovery.

She's home and feeling pretty well, all things considered. Thanks for the prayers.

UPDATE:

During the surgery, my mom's vocal cords were paralyzed, and she has had trouble speaking since then.

She was supposed to regain her voice within a few weeks, but it still has not come back, and doctors are now saying that it might be permanent damage.

So continued prayers for her are appreciated.
