Over at the "other forum," this album was just brought up. The thread originator has good taste in music...his top two CD's last year were Sleeping At Last and The Innocence Mission. He gave this CD a good review. Has anyone here heard it? Any thoughts?

A bunch of kids at work(Ok, just two), have been telling me that I should hear this one. One called them "Radiohead from Ohio." I'll see if I can get a copy to check out.

They also have a former member of Living Sacrifice in the band. It's tempting to get excited, but I'm so scared that this could be another Evanescence or P.O.D. - good people wasting their talents.

AMG gives this album 3 stars out of 5; for some reason, though, no review has been posted yet.

Weirdest thing EVER!
I got this album today. I bought it brand new from Amazon, so the CD was sealed. The case looks right. I opened it up. The CD looks right, properly labled and all. I popped it into the computer, and the CDDB stuff comes up as Todd Snider, East Nashvilee Skyline. Assuming that its just a CDDB error, I continue to play. The song comes in, and sounds very different from the samples I heard online. Checking with the lyrics, I found out that I somehow have Todd Snider's album stamped onto the Lovedrug CD! Lets hope I can get it replaced.

Most things I buy end up breaking pretty quickly one way or the other(or simply come not working). I've always liked CDs because they're an exception to this rule, but I guess I was wrong....I'm hoping to either get it replaced, or get a burned copy.

I'm almost through my second listen. This album is pretty fantastic. The guy on the other board summed it up pretty well: a heavier Sleeping At Last with its own nuances.
I'll post more on it later.

Yeah, but what's up with the lyrics? Not necessarily the most readily-understood set of lyrics I've read. Okay, I'm still really liking this after having listened to it all day. Excellent musicianship. Guitars are most definitely front-and-center. Drumming is pretty decent as well, and they have a piano thrown in here and there. Rhythm is capable, with a few 3/4 and a 12/8 thrown into the 4/4 mix. They are a little more dense than Sleeping At Last, laying off the atmospherics a little. But there is a bit of noise here and there for effect, which works well in the overall sound. The vocals are more powerful, for the most part. When he is really pushing it out, he sounds more like Nathan Barlowe of Luna Halo. When he is singing softer, he sounds more like, believe it or not, Nate Cole of Plus One. It evens out to a vocal style that is sometimes pleasing and sometimes not, but leaning more to the former. The lyrics, as I noted above, are puzzling. I don't know whether to try to figure them out or just enjoy the music. If anyone wants to scan the lyrics, they can be found here.

Does their name stand for a Love Drug, or a Loved Rug?
I'm having a hard time deciding. The second one would be cute.

Please post your opinion...I'm wondering what others think of it. I can't stop listening. Alas, my troubles are not over. The burned CD only plays properly for the first three tracks. After that, it begins to stutter and skip. Perhaps I am not meant to hear this album.

My favorite songs are "In Red," "Blackout," "Spiders," "Pandamoranda," "Down Towards the Healing," "Angels With Enemies," and "Radiology."
But since apparantly nobody else has listened to it, I'm talking to myself.

I've listened to it and I saw LoveDrug in concert at Purple door a couple of Saturdays ago.
I like them, but their lyrics really throw me for a loop. And I don't think they're abstract enough (like Radiohead) to have the lyrics they do.
They seem to associate themselves with the Christian music scene, but I certainly can't tell. (I don't know if this is a criticism or not, it's just how I see it.)

I know they've played the odd date with Sleeping At Last. I've heard they are the ole "Christians but not a Christian Band" thing.

I don't know why I didn't pick up on it before, but I also hear a lot of Martin Smith from Delirious? in the lead singer's vocals.
I wish more people would give this one a spin.

I downloaded the three non-LP songs from their RocknRoll EP, which are also very good.
I see that DvChWi gave Pretend You're Alive an A-. Sounds right to me.
