Well since I don't have a job so I'm really bored lately.  What movies should I rent that will be worth this picky movie-watching college grad's money?

Go to your local library and find some movies. That's what I do when I'm feeling frugal.

Master and Commander is excellent.

The other three I haven't seen, but they don't look at all appealing to me.

I personally found Master and Commander rather boring (I did like the weevil thing though). I was surprised that I liked Cold Mountain. Renee Zellweger's performance makes it worth watching.   The Last Samurai was...rather boring.  while I think Cate Blanchett is an amazing actress, I usually hate the movies she's in, but The Missing was all right.

I'd say they're all worth a rental, if you like the sorts of movies they are. They're all very good within their genres, though I definitely think The Missing is the weakest of the 4. I thought The Last Samurai was ok, Master and Commander technically excellent but very boring, The Missing dull (but I hate westerns). I thought Cold Mountain was actually a very very good movie and I'd recommend it.

rent some old classics!
like:
the philadelphia story
north by northwest
charade
casablanca
rear window
my favorite wife
pillow talk (guilty pleasure)
return of the pink panther

hm...i just realized that most of these movies have cary grant in them. that's a good thing.

newer favorites (from the last year):
the station agent
american splendor
triplets of belleville
master and commander
return of the king

Decided to rent:

Big Fish
The Bourne Identity

First time seeing both.  Yes I know, I'm late.  I don't see many movies.

For the record, linds and I disagree about Big Fish-- I think I gave it a C+ or so-- but I still respect her as a human being.  Smiley

Well, I'd give it no higher than a B+.  It was a very good film, but some performances were lacking.  I didn't really like the casting of Steve Buscemi as the poet guy.  The only part that really worked for him was the bank robbery scene.  Crudup did a great job as Will Bloom.  I think he did the best job out of the cast.  MacGregor was very good, but i just couldn't really appreciate his entire performance.   It's not a movie I'd purchase, but it was a good rent.

Woo-hoo!  Great action flick, and I think Supremacy is even better.
