That should be funny. I like the idea of Jean Reno as his sidekick and Kevin Kline as his boss. I'm not too sure about Beyonce, though.

You know, for a non-Pixar computer animated film, Madagascar looks surprisingly fun and zany.

House of Flying Daggers is from the same director who did Hero, and, if this trailer is any indication, it looks like it's going to be even more visually astonishing than its anscestor.

I predict a score of less than 10 on RT. That looks predictably stupid, and Jennifer Garner is hot (oops, those were unrelated).

I saw the trailers for the movie adaptations of three classics today:
-The Phantom of the Opera The music sounds vintage and the mise-en-scene (attack of the snooty film terms) seems quality. This one could very well not be the travesty that some classical adaptations are.
-The Merchant of Venice This play is one of Shakespeare's more controversial works (if you were unaware of this, the trailer is kind enough to inform you of this fact). I have read the play though not seen it performed, and from what I saw it seems to be fairly consistent with the text. Whether it maintains the original spirit of the play remains to be seen, but since debate rages as to the intent of the play anyway then I suppose there's more leeway there than usual.
-The War of the Worlds Spielberg and Cruise seem like a decent team, and I believe the voiceover in the trailer is text from the actual novel by Wells, which I have read but it was a while back. The trailer had little actual content, which IMO is a mixed blessing since on one hand the movie is not already halfway ruined for the viewers but on the other it's hard to tell whether it will really be worth watching. The atmospheric effects were nice, if a little cliche, so I suppose we'll see. Without going too in-depth as to what happens (ruining the plot of this movie is like telling people that Gandalf comes back...sure it's a spoiler, but the book's been out for so long that you have little excuse for not knowing what goes down anyway), the ending is fairly anticlimatic and nontraditional, and I could see a director being tempted to change it, especially with the modern setting that they appear to be taking. The idea that aliens could take out the fairly primitive military of England of 100 years ago is a bit more plausible than seeing the improbable metallic tripods defeating F-22s and M1 tanks.

Some thoughts on a few trailers I saw before Lemony Snicket's the other day:
Madagascar - This looks pretty funny for an animated film and includes a lot of famous voices such as Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Andy Richter, Cedric the Entertainer, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer, and a few others. Anyone else seen this preview? It looks better than Robots and Cars.
Robots - This has another all-star voice cast: Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Robin Williams, Drew Carey, Greg Kinnear, Mel Brooks (woohoo), D.L. Hughley, Harland Williams, and Jamie Kennedy. This looks fairly interesting in a futuristic cartoon robot world. Not sure if I would see this in the theater though
Bewitched - Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell. Seems funny. Also includes Shirley McClaine, Jason Schwartzmann, and Michael Caine, just to name a few. Definitely a date movie for the old tv fans:-)
War of the Worlds - This looks like it will bomb. Almost like Independence Day without the corny will smith jokes
and oh brother...On the semi-success of Barbershop and Barbershop 2, there is a BeautyShop coming out starring Queen Latifah. Someone KILL ME

Melinda and Melinda.Looks pretty funny to me. Most pholks say that Woody Allen has been in a slump as of late, but maybe he'll get his groove back with this film. If nothing else, I'll have to see it for Will Ferrell...

Does anyone else think the Fantastic Four trailer makes the movie look pretty mediocre? Yes. The effects look pretty cheesy, and the use of loud modern rock anthems in the trailer is profoundly irritating. Let's hope the actual movie is significantly better.

The trailer for the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy movie gives little information, but since the venerable Mr. Adams was deeply involved with both the screenplay and the movie itself before his death then one hopes that it will be nonsucky. Sorry that the movie is, you know, freaking huge.

Cinderella Man looks truly barf-worthy. It also looks like it's gonna win an Oscar. I've seen the trailer before a few movies already. Your second sentence appears to be very true. Anytime you throw Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger, and Ron Howard into the same movie, the Oscar folk are sure to salivate.

Wow... now HERE's a trailer that really grabs my attention: Richard Linklater's A Scanner Darkly. Interesting. I'm not really up on the computer graphics terms, but I believe you would call that cel-shading. However, is it just me or does the 'synopsis' box on that website give away essentially the entire plot?

Been wondering why Jimmy Fallon left Saturday Night Live? Well, apparently, to star in mundane, lifeless, unfunny rom-coms with Drew Barrymore. Like this one, for example.

Here's a trailer for The Island. The good news: It's got a GREAT cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Ewan McGregor, and Steve Buscemi. The bad news: It's directed by Michael Bay, the man who brought us Armageddon and Pearl Harbor.

The Bad News Bears... now THIS looks funny. AAAAAAAAAAH.. Why have to re-do the original and use Billy-Bob? I'll probably go see it, but I think this is going to suck. You can't re-do the movie and have Thornton try and be as good as Walter Matthau was. Oh well......

did they actually use music from the PotC score or just blatantly rip it off?

did they actually use music from the PotC score or just blatantly rip it off? I think sometimes the music for the actual movie hasn't been composed yet or something and they take some memorable theme from another movie and use it instead. I seem to recall hearing the Braveheart music in the Castaway trailer, for instance.

It seems inconceivable that these haven't already been discussed this week (perhaps in other threads dedicated to the films themselves), but just in case: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fireand The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the WardrobeI take issue with a few things about the Narnia trailer, but I'm just mostly really, really hoping that the movie is good. I need something to fill the gaping hole LOTR left. I need a new traditional movie to camp outside the theatres for.

Narnia Trailer: Totally sweet. I can't wait to see it.
Harry Potter: The first three were pretty good; haven't read the books but the movies are interesting.
