Did some more trailer browsing this afternoon.

Lions for Lambs, the Robert Redford movie with Meryl Streep & Tom Cruise.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/mgm/lionsforlambs/teaser1/

The Invasion, with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/theinvasion/trailer1/

The Brave One. Looks like a terrible premise, but with great actors. (Jodie Foster, Terrence Howard, Naveen Andrews)
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thebraveone/trailer1/

American Gangster. I would want to see this if it wasn't directed by Ridley Scott. I don't know.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/americangangster/index.html

Shoot 'Em Up, with Clive Owen(!) and Paul Giamatti.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/newline/shootemup/

The Kingdom, with Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, etc. I want to see it because Jeremy Piven's in it.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/thekingdom/

The Golden Age. Come on. And, Clive Owen again!

At first the movie sounded pretty cool, but it's looked less and less interesting as I've read about it.

Well, the trailer looks pretty sweet. Kind of like a "Signs" meets "Sum of all Fears".

...wait a minute; I'm not a big fan of either of those movies.

And it looks like it will have people outrunning wind and hiding from plants in the wilderness with plants. It still could surprise me, but I have little faith in Shyamalan.

I defended and love Shyamalan from The Sixth Sense to The Village, and then came Lady in the Water. I have no doubt I'll see The Happening on opening day, but I'm not getting my hopes up like I did for Lady.

Trailers seen in front of Iron Man:
Dark Knight: All I can say is yes, yes, a thousand times yes.
The Incredible Hulk: The Hulk in general gets a resounding meh from me, but the trailer did look pretty sweet.
Indiana Jones and the Really Long Title: I am cautiously optimistic about this one.

I didn't see a Caspian trailer, which made me kind of sad, but it looks like it will be a good summer.

I'm anticipating The Incredible Hulk because of Edward Norton.

No trailer yet, but I just saw that a fourth Bourne movie is going to be out in 2010.  I think it's going to be called The Bourne Legacy.  Yes!

Coming out in a few days...the trailer looks really good (if, like most trailers, giving away a bit too much about the movie for my tastes :P)

Where the Wild Things Are

I don't know what I think of this one being made into a movie, but the use of the Arcade Fire song is nice.

Wow, creepy and cool

I realize it's not for an actual movie, but my former roommate sent this to me and I thought it was worth a post.

Been away for awhile (baby being born and busy at work), but I've found my way back to this little slice of the Interwebs.

The Road has its first trailer up. Looks as intense and depressing as the novel.

I really don't feel like the parts of the film shown in the trailer capture the parts of the stories I love so much. Though he is depicted as capable of quick and decisive action, he has never been an action hero. The trailer made it look as though they're remaking Holmes into the 'eccentric genius' stereotype portrayed ad nauseum in modern entertainment, and that doesn't fit the Holmes that I see in the pages of Doyle's work. Though they are obviously inspired by him, Sherlock Holmes is not a Gregory House or Adrian Monk.

It may possibly be a good movie, but from the trailer it definitely doesn't look like a good portrayal of Sherlock Holmes.

He kind of is an eccentric genius, though. After all, he refused to study anything that didn't serve the purpose of solving crimes, which is pretty odd in itself. I have no problem with a movie playing that up. It also established in the stories that he was an expert at fistfighting, with a pistol, or sword, so I have no problem with playing up that for a movie.

I've heard the movie isn't well represented in the trailer and the script is much better than it would indicate.

I think this portrayal looks way too wacky and actiony and "depraved". maybe part of it had to do with the music used in the trailer, but I kept thinking of Jack Sparrow. I like Jack Sparrow, but I don't think Holmes is anything like Sparrow. (I don't think this portrayal is much like Monk or House though. I think it could stand to be more like Monk or House--then it would seem more like Holmes.)

Too depraved?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_holmes#Use_of_drugs

Too much of an action hero?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_holmes#Weapons_and_martial_arts

Too eccentric:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_holmes#Habits_and_personality

This seems exactly like the Sherlock Holmes I've grown up reading.

No, Holmes was unquestionably an eccentric genius, but the modern portrayal a la Tony Stark does not fit him at all. He used drugs because he craved mental stimulation and when his clients or his experiments couldn't give it to him, he got it from the needle. From the trailer, RDJ's portrayal makes him look like a dissipated beatnik with a penchant for uncanny observation, not an English gentleman who solved crimes from his London flat.

I agree that the trailer shows aspects of Holmes that are indeed presented in the books--his eccentricity, his mastery of martial arts, his ability for quick action--but I feel like these traits are elevated and the traits that makes him him have been pushed aside in favor of a quirkier, darker, more modern Holmes.

How appropriate that the best-looking movies thus far of the summer of '09 are both 9 themed:

My comment when I saw the trailer for 9 before Star Trek was that "this movie looks like it is specially designed to appeal to me personally". It looks really cool.

District 9 also looks pretty sweet.

I saw the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are. I loved the book as a kid and I even had a stuffed Wild Thing, so I was all set to pour on the haterade. But

Um

The trailer at least looked kind of good. I don't know what to tell you. I'm not sure that I actually plan on watching it, but it looked like the sort of thing that I would watch.

Also, the trailer for the Michael Jackson movie, whose name I've already forgotten, had Smooth Criminal in my head all during the movie. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I had a strange urge to let out a high-pitched "wooo!" at a very contextually inappropriate point.
