Just posted Dv's first-ever article on the Base, a concert review of a recent Derek Webb show. Not bad at all, man; you pholks should check it out.

Webb is a new hero of mine, you know. He goes to a PCA church. He likes Bob Dylan and U2. And he himself claims to have an obsession with reformed theology. Clearly an intelligent man...  =)

Hey, it looks nice on there!  Thanks for doing the paragraph stuff, I noticed that the the body was one big paragraph after I sent it to you.  And I noticed your strategicly timed Shot of Love thread, as well.  Derek's high praise of it sparked my interest.

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:

Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

I think Webb's album is my personal favorite of the year so far, but does it really matter? C'mon, we all know OtR and The Innocence Mission are going to out-cool both Yorke and Webb...

In all seriousness, with the quality of all of the albums I've heard this year I seriously think that I'm going to have a top 5 list of all ties that I just picked and chose which is better without really being convinced that they are better.

Webb = Radiohead = blur potentially = OtR...it's going to be crazy.

If I was looking soley at the technical competence displayed on this year's new albums, it would indeed be a toughie, but if I look simply at which ones I've listened to the most, it's not quite as bad.

That's the entire problem.  I try to make my list from this perspective.  It's hard when, in my estimation, the top 5 are very close to equal technically.  At that point, it goes to playing favorites, as you described, but I try not to do that as much as possible.  It's futile to avoid it to some degree most of the time.
