Uploaded two songs from new albums.
from Low's new album, Murderer, a haunting song that is one of my favorites of the year at this point. The album just took the #1 spot in my journal.
From Modest Mouse's new one, Invisible, one of my favorites from the album.

took down all my old stuff and uploaded a couple different songs: Ferraby Lionheart's "Tickets to Crickets" and two versions of Patty Griffin's "Top of the World". (see the Dixie Chicks thread for my thoughts on both versions.)

I uploaded a Modest Mouse song today called "We've Got Everything", which is hella catchy, and amusing in its arrogance.
I also uploaded "I Get It" from Chevelle's new album. I like the attitude in this track. (There's attitude in every Chevelle song, but I don't always like it.)
NP: "Top of the World", Patty Griffin

Uploading two tracks right now, both from Michael Giacchino's score for Season 2 of Lost - one is called "Peace Through Superior Firepower", which is heard during the season premiere Man of Science, Man of Faith, after Desmond's record player cuts out and he arms himself and looks through his series of mirrors up the hatch to see Jack and Locke at the top of it. The other is called "Hurley's Handouts", a peaceful theme that is heard during the Dharma food binge at the end of Everybody Hates Hugo, which is one of my all-time favorite scenes from the show.

Hey, would somebody who has Pearl Jam's cover of "Love Reign O'er Me" be so kind as to Pub it for me? It's a bit of a rarity (apparently the soundtrack CD for Reign Over Me is just the incidental music) and I'm having trouble getting a good quality mp3. The only Pearl Jam CD that it apparently appears on is a rare fan club EP or something.

OK, so it's been far too long since I Pubbed anything...
I have a couple amusing 80s songs up there, Walk Like an Egyptian and Maniac. I also have two Emerson, Lake, and Palmer songs, Jerusalem and C'est la Vie. Check out the ELP tracks for some good music and the others for a laugh.

I'm uploading a rather gargantuan track from Neal Morse's Sola Scriptura for the last round of SGTC, so if anyone actually wants to listen to all twenty-odd minutes of it, it might help you with the game. (The album's only four tracks long, so unless I wanted to upload the uncharacteristic ballad from the album's midsection, I was looking at something that ran over twenty minutes.)
EDIT: Also uploaded my favorite Anathallo track, just for the halibut.

I got a couple Leaves' Eyes tracks up from their Vinland Saga album. They're symphonic, and though you can hear the Nightwish influence, where Nightwish is more gothic and heavy, Leaves' Eyes is a lot more atmospheric and even beautiful. I've been liking this album so far, so I hope you enjoy it.
I'm going to wait on the Wintersun a bit, since I doubt most current pubbers would enjoy it at all (WCB might like them, but I haven't seen her around the Pub lately). Meanwhile, with the ELP stuff I left up there and the Leaves' Eyes stuff, this is one of the milder sets of music I've put up, so be sure to tell me what you think.

Last December, when people were looking to catch up on highlights of 2006 that they missed, I pubbed "Hello Jenn, I'm A Mess" by Evangelicals. So Gone was a bargain-bin find for me that I bought unheard based on a good review at Pitchfork, and it's about as good as Pitchfork says it is. It sure "pwns" the latest Flaming Lips album, anyway.
Thanks to the people who uploaded songs by Porcupine Tree, KT Tunstall, and TV on the Radio over the past few months. I've been enjoying In Absentia, Acoustic Extravaganza, and Return to Cookie Mountain for a while now.
Sadly, though, I agree with Murlough on the new Arcade Fire. I still can't get enough of Funeral, but I find that I skip to a few songs on Neon Bible. I could probably burn a one-disc mix of the two CDs that I'd be happy with, though.
Oh, and I bought the new Relient K CD too, but that was before I realized that people had pubbed a few tracks. Sorry. Best Buy had Five Score... on sale for $10, and with a coupon, that became $5, and then I ran over to Target to get The Arcade Fire for...$8, I think. It was a nice little early birthday present for me.
Those Modest Mouse songs sound pretty good too.
I have pub request for Murlough - I want to hear that remix of Jennifer Knapp's "Faithful to Me" that combines the intro and outro versions (you mentioned it on your soundtrack blog).
...and that's all I can remember right now, although I'm sure I'll remember that somebody pubbed something else that I loved after I log off.

It sure "pwns" the latest Flaming Lips album, anyway. You're just saying that to goad me into listening to it, aren't you? Sadly, though, I agree with Murlough on the new Arcade Fire. Hold the phone here - you can't agree with me when I don't even have an opinion on the album. I heard two songs that didn't interest me and I decided to investigate no further. You've actually listened. At best you can say that my instincts were right, but I don't know nearly enough to judge the album as a whole, and I'm not interested to, either. I have pub request for Murlough - I want to hear that remix of Jennifer Knapp's "Faithful to Me" that combines the intro and outro versions (you mentioned it on your soundtrack blog). It's not a remix - really just me Frankensteining pieces of a song together. But I'll pub it anyway. I believe that on the indie album Wishing Well, she actually sang the entire song as one track (in a different key), but I don't have any of the tracks from the album any more, other than her exquisite version of "Jesus Loves Me".

Wow, I really goofed here. I had downloaded a mislabeled song that was actually by Fort Minor. What I like about the song still remains, and you should still check it out, but I can't claim it as a bright spot on Linkin Park's new album, because it's not even a Linkin Park song. That one was my favorite on the album before I realized my error, too. Bummer. Maybe I will have to check out Fort Minor after all. The Pub appears to be down right now; when it comes back up; I'll re-label the song. This means that I have yet to hear the actual "In Between". NP: "The Little Things Give You Away", Linkin Park

Once most of the students leave for the summer, most of the ISPs immediately start screwing with stuff. Our connection seems to have mostly stabilized; if you try to connect and fail, try again in about 15-20 minutes. Pub hours are more or less the same as they've always been, so the Pub was "officially up" at the time of your post, but was apparently temporarily down. Verizon gets about zero props from me.

I apologize that the Pub has been so extremely spotty lately. I have spoken with two Verizon tech support people, and while they were both nice and helpful, they weren't able to solve my problem. I'll keep working on it at my end and see what I can do...but I'm not very impressed with them at all.

Finally fixed my Fort Minor/Linkin Park mixup today. The Fort Minor track (which I highly recommend listening to because it's better than anything on Linkin Park's album) is now named correctly, and I uploaded an actual Linkin Park song called "Bleed It Out" that I just posted a parody of. Have fun with it.

Would someone be so kind as to Pub Bjork's "Wanderlust"? It's the only track on the album that I can't seem to get a decent-quality download of that doesn't either have a bunch of pops and skips, or tack on the "harbor" outro from track 1 as an intro. (Unless that part's supposed to be the beginning of track 2 on the album or something - but I really hope she didn't do it that way.) I love the song and it's frustrating to have it be the only messed-up track when I listen to the album.

I was at a resteraunt. I ordered a chicken sandwich, but I don't think the waitress understood me. Cuz she said "how would you like your eggs?". So I tried to answer her anyhow, I said incubated, and then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked, and then cut up, and then put on a grill, and then put on to a bun. You're just saying that to goad me into listening to it, aren't you?
No...actually, I'm not sure if you'd like it. Brenden and bloop ought to, though. It doesn't really "rock" much, but it has that psychedelic-pop edge I tend to like more in the 'Lips. I tend to not care much for the more organic Lips stuff - Evangelicals is probably more of a band for people who didn't like At War With the Mystics too much.
Oh, well in that case...I ought to upload "No Cars Go" sometime. That song's worthwhile. "My Body Is A Cage" is good too. I'm guessing that in addition to the two mediocre tracks that were pubbed, you also saw "Intervention" and "Keep the Car Running" on SNL? If you didn't care for either song on SNL, then "No Cars Go" is really the only must-hear track left for you. ...and of course, you NEED Funeral, which is the album of the decade as far as I am concerned. It's not a remix - really just me Frankensteining pieces of a song together. But I'll pub it anyway.
It sounds good though. Thanks. I'm not a fan of "Last Night on Earth (Again)". That one should have stayed a b-side. Oh well - I'm not going to buy a best-of at this point anyway. I can't say that I cared for the Derek Webb or Silverchair tracks either. Emerson, Lake, and Palmer sounded good to me though. I don't have enough decent prog in my life. Speaking of which, did anyone like that Neal Morse track ? Modest Mouse feat. James Mercer was fun. So was John Reuben. I'm not sure that any of those tracks have much more than novelty value, but I guess time will tell. I haven't been able to open anything that schil has uploaded in the past few months

I'm OK with the Neal Morse stuff (I listened to Author of Confusion; if there's been anything up since then I probably missed it, though it might be in my ever-growing 'to listen' folder). It was technically good, but it didn't appeal to me as much as a lot of the other prog stuff I like.
I'm glad you like the ELP stuff. They're a lot softer than my usual fare, but I still dig those two songs especially after many listens.

I tend to not care much for the more organic Lips stuff - Evangelicals is probably more of a band for people who didn't like At War With the Mystics too much. People talked about how At War with the Mystics was "more organic", but it seemed to me like there was plenty of looping and programming and ambience... plus all of the talkbox stuff. The lyrics are a little less sci-fi, but the whole record still sounds very futuristic to me. Oh, well in that case...I ought to upload "No Cars Go" sometime. That song's worthwhile. "My Body Is A Cage" is good too. I'm guessing that in addition to the two mediocre tracks that were pubbed, you also saw "Intervention" and "Keep the Car Running" on SNL? ...and of course, you NEED Funeral, which is the album of the decade as far as I am concerned. I already listened to Funeral. It didn't take. I'm officially NOT INTERESTED in Arcade Fire; end of story. Modest Mouse feat. James Mercer was fun. So was John Reuben. I'm not sure that any of those tracks have much more than novelty value, but I guess time will tell. Modest Mouse is largely novelty, but if you thought that about John Reuben then you really weren't paying attention.

the reason I asked was in case you hadn't deleted the non-working files and could list them for me so I don't have to wrack my poor brain (or use the search feature, haha) to figure out what all I had uploaded so long ago. I'm at work right now and can't upload but I did search. I'm going to post the list of songs here so I don't forget to upload later. if you happen to see this before I upload and if there's stuff you've already heard (or don't care to hear, boo hoo), and/or if you prefer the email attachment(s) way, let me know. otherwise I'll probably put 'em all in a zipped up folder for ease of downloading. (unless for some reason Vlad! says nononodon'tdothat!) Patty Griffin, Top of the World, ACL version and Impossible Dream version Patty Griffin, Heavenly Day Eleni Mandell, My Twin, Moonglow, Lamp Low, Miracle of Five, Miss Me Gillian Welch & David Rawlings w/ OCMS and Nickel Creek folks, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun The Ditty Bops, Your Head's Too Big Cat Power, Lived In Bars and the current Ferraby Lionheart song. has anyone been able to listen to this or does Danny's computer just hate my files?

OK, I took a looky at it. It's encoded using LAME, practically the standard nowadays for non-commercial encodes, at a moderate to low VBR. Unless you're using some sort of old-school player that can't handle VBR, it should play. Note that the ELP tracks I uploaded were also VBR, so I doubt that's the problem. I did notice that Media Player Classic displayed some sort of awkward glyph (䥔y7*ſČ) after the Artist field, and this was not present when I opened it in Foobar2000. It may be that Schil's ripper is butchering the ID3 tags--but I didn't see the same thing on the Cat Power track, so I dunno. People manage to find the most creative ways to screw their computers up, especially when they use such colossal failures as Windows Media Player and iTunes, so Danny, I'm guessing it's just the case that your computer doesn't like some particular quirk of the way Schil's ripper/encoder handles the files or their metadata. You can try installing the DS-MP3 Source codec (available here), which might help or might not. You can also try grabbing BonkEnc and re-encoding the files yourself to see what happens. Without a more accurate description of what happens when the files "don't work", though, I can't offer any other suggestions.

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception. rms
