Sideways

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Sideways. It opens here on Wednesday, and I'm going to try to see it and review it sometime this weekend.

Anybody here seen it?

I haven't seen it yet, but it opened here last Friday. I really, really want to see it - it's at the top of my Already Released Movies that I Need To Make Time To See ASAP list, along with The Incredibles.

Saw it yesterday.

In terms of its craftsmanship, it's definitely one of the year's best films. Director Alexander Payne takes a familiar formula and somehow manages to make it surprising and fresh, filled with moments of outrageous humor and moving pathos. And his cast is first-rate.

Not sure how I feel about the film's morality yet. It's full of characters who make foolish choices and then get away with it without learning anything, but I'm not sure if the film presents these mistakes in a flattering light or not. I'll have to think it through a little more.

For now, I'll say that I could end up giving this film as low as a B or as high as an A-, though, at this point, I'm leaning towards the latter. If nothing else, I had a GREAT time.
