Well, the nominees are in, and PASTE has a rundown of the more significant entries.

It's nice to see U2, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Wilco, and Modest Mouse get some love.  Overall, though, it looks like the Grammys will continue their trend of honoring mediocrity over excellence and beauty. I'll tune in to watch any worthwhile performances, and to hear Bono's typically great acceptance speeches, but, as for the awards themselves, I could care less.

When I hand out awards at Reveal later this year, I expect just about all of them to go to either Nick Cave or Sam Phillips. Where are THEIR Grammy nominations?

I was happy that the Los Lonely Boys picked up something like 4-5 nominations.

They deserve to win every one they were nominated for.

Loretta Lynn was nominated for five awards, so that's not all that bad.

I loooove the nominees in the Soul Gospel category.

There are some things that are good about it.  The alternative category is pretty good (I'm pulling for Bjork).  Loretta is deserving, too, and they at least nodded the magnificent SMiLE for pop album (although I think it should have garnered more than that).

WHERE THE @!?# is Madvillain and Dizzee Rascal?

Add the Streets to that.

The rap/hip-hop categories are so sad.

SMiLE should've replaced Usher in the Album of the Year category.
