Thought this was interesting... recently, thecast of Ocean's 12 sat down with Diane Sawyer and talked about morality and the recent election. Some of what they said is pretty thought-provoking.

It touches on politics and film a little bit, but, more than anything, it's about morality, I think, so I thought this would be the section to post it in.  =)

I kind of like it, but i don't like it at the same time. It reminds me of when Andrew Sullivan was on Bill Maher's show. He tried to blame the left for all the polarization politically - as if the only people trying to make the other side look dumb were the comedians. Naturally i took offense at that - the comedians have such easy material on Bush, i'm surprised they've been able to hold back as much as they have. Besides, one group can't do all the polarizing. People in the media make fun of idiots, right or left, and since the idiots on the right (the loud ones who happen to be there, i don't mean to imply they're all idiots) think they have the corner on the morality market, they set themselves up as a target and then accuse anyone who sees this as a farce of being evil.

....to be short, i liked everything they said except when they blamed the right for all of the polarizing.

Although, i suppose some of the fear tactics of the Bush campaign could be to blame - but that's a campaign manager, not a "heartland" of supposed moral superiority.

I think both sides need to share the responsibility and stop talking about how the other party is trying to divide people. Saying your group is the only group who's "moral" or "tolerant" is cruel to the other group, regardless of what group it is. Besides, is condemning people as immoral or intolerant actually a moral or tolerant thing to do anyway?
