I'll be working on the board off and on today, so if colors and other things seem a bit wonky, that's why. If you have any suggestions (or just want to say "hey, the current skin looks uber", send me a PM.

By the way, the ^_^ smiley no longer maps to  =). Just so you know...

Vlad!, the current colors ain't too bad, but it'd be nice if the links were readable. Also, I rather dislike the little borders around the smilies, but I can live with that if I must.  =)

I'm going to have to edit some graphics to make the board totally TRB colors (the blue gradients don't mesh very well with our current color scheme...), but I think it's going prety well. I just need to figure out how to change it so ALL the text isn't Rebel Base Orange....

Sounds great, Vlad! Thanks for working on this... when you get this board looking snazzy, you have my persmission to give yourself the title Prince of Prettiness. (But you might not want to...).

Not perfect, but livable.

I actually have to work now since my break is over, but I seem to have gotten it decent. If you notice something really bad (ESPECIALLY if you find something that's a horrible bright blue or red), pm me or post on this topic. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post those as well. If you find a part of the board that is unreadable or really ugly, tell me how to get there.

Stuff that will be changed, hopefully before tomorrow:
-Some font colors, especially titles that are hard to read (suggestions welcome)
-One or two background colors that make things hard to see

Stuff that will be changed, hopefully before next week:
-Smiley graphics, mainly border removal but also changing the  Wink and  :D  ones to look less fruity. If you have new smileys, send them to me at nathanb[at]vt.edu and I'll consider uploading those as well.
-Background graphics, such as the blue gradients. I'll probably use a dark grey (#444444) to light grey (#888888) fade for some of the bars and maybe something spiffy for the title.
-Title graphic. I'll design a new one, probably quite similar to the one on the main page but smaller. It will either say ThePhorum.net and have something about TRB along the bottom or The Rebel Base (.net) and something about thephorum.net along the bottom. Comments are welcome.
-Maybe new buttons (like the post reply button) that are more consistent with the theme.

I hope you all are enjoying this new phorum as much as I am, and I want to make sure this is YOUR phorum, not just mine and Josh's. ANY suggestions, comments, criticisms, etc. will be considered, and if there's any doubt I will use a poll or something to get your opinion.

Happy posting Smiley

Thanks to Vlad! for all your help with this board, and I second your proclamation that this board is for the Phorum Phamily, not just us Admins.

I think it looks pretty good the way it is now. At least good enough to last until you have more time for some fine-tuning.

Personally, I don't have any problem with the Wink  face, though  :D  could use some work. Just don't mess with the ninja!  ph34r

And is there any reason why, when you posted your e-mail address above, it said [at] instead of the @ symbol?

The blue looks fine with me, as does the font against the grey.  =)

Yeah, after I removed the blindingly bright blue banners (say that five times fast), the white was much easier to read. I'm pretty proud of how the colors have turned out now that I've gotten the hang of it, though I'm a little disappointed that their default smileys have those annoying white borders around them...

The white borders are annoying, and the blue buttons don't quite look right, but otherwise, I like it.

Thanks. You're right about the borders and buttons, though...those are pretty high on my to-do list after I get home from work ^_^

I also want to figure out how I can make the signature stay at the bottom even when the post is shorter than the sidebar, but it may be impossible. Oh, well, it's not all that annoying anyway  =)

good work!
I think the white font is a bit hard to read on the medium-light gray background. I'd prefer black font or a darker gray or something.

oh yeah, I just noticed something. on the main page, the "]" before the members that have been active in the past 15 minutes is red, which kinda looks odd since there's no other red anywhere.

at first when I read Vlad!'s title, King of Prettiness, I thought it said King of Pettiness. perhaps I am the Queen of that, though.

How goofy of them to define a style that gets used only for that arrow. I think I fixed it now, though.

Once I get home I'll experiment with differing shades of grey and/or different font shades. Maybe I'll jsut bump the font size up or make it a different style. There are several options.

Sorry, I needed to edit the code stylesheet and nobody had posted code yet ]_[

Anyway, I edited the smilies to remove the borders and make some of the sadful ones look less like victims of down's syndrome, but the board won't let me upload...tststs...I e-mailed Chuck about it, and I'll see what I can do to get that remedied.

And I'll be sure to make backups...the normal ones are OK, but I might have screwed up the transparency on the animated ones. I'll have to see...

a bit of oddness: yesterday when I logged back on, I noticed the red ]'s were not red anymore but just now they were red again.

I noticed that too. I'll try to fix it.

All the smilies are fixed (woot) and five of the post icons (like the heart and the question mark) have been fixed. The rest of the post icons will follow shortly ^_^

I e-mailed myself the stylesheet, fixed the red arrows at work, then fixed something else using the (older) stylesheet and the arrows went back to red. They should be permanently fixed now.

I'd like to know what you guys think of the new background color. Easier to read? Make it look too dark? Here's your chance to sound off!

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm really liking the way the colour scheme is coming along.  Vlad, if you want help editing some graphics, I'd be more than happy to help.  I own a ton of graphics software, thanks to my uber-talented sister.  Heck, I could probably even get my sister to work on them - there's nothing she loves more than using her graphics tablet.  Just let me know.

Shameless plug for my sister's website: http://members.shaw.ca/premonitionstudios
(please ignore the tacky web design, she's working on fixing that now that she's on summer vacation)

Thanks for the words, guys, and for the offer. I'd like to get the graphics done by this weekend, but if you or your sister e-mail me some ones that you did, I'd be happy to take a look at them and maybe use them.

There is the ability on this board to have multiple skins. Once I get to school (and thus have a faster internet connection) I'd like to provide multiple skins to our phorum users, and the more buttons I have, the more variety I can offer.
