Well, I hope none of you were to anxious for a new Coldplay album, because the release date has been pushed back three months. Story here.

Hey, it beats never, which is when Chris Martin originally claimed the next Coldplay album would be out after finishing A Rush of Blood to the Head.
I like Coldplay, but I can wait.

Easily the most album anticipated release of 2005QUOTE] Says who? Just giving the writer grief, because I hate stupid generalizations like that. Anyhow, continue with your thread.

Anyway, this is probably my most anticipated release to come this year. Jars of Clay, Switchfoot, Mute Math, and Deepspace5 are up there with it.

I can't even see what's so creative about the cover. It's just ugly if you ask me.

I don't think it's ugly, but it's definitely more like the type of cover I'd expect from Joy Electric, not Coldplay.
Word on the street is that there's a secret code in this colo(u)r pattern. It looks like something I'd have plotted for an assignment using a very old computer program in grade school. Combine this puzzle and the Lost lotto numbers, and that's going to equal a lot of sleepless nights.

Just by way of reminder, I can still love the album even if I consider its cover to be ugly. In any event, if it is coded somehow, I guess I can see the creativity of that NES-age eyesore.

The first single, "Speed of Sound," follows, and it's about the strangest track the band could've selected to serve as its grand return to the spotlight. Martin's voice is cocooned by the pulses of an electric piano and synth chords that give way to a driving piano line and circling guitars, making the whole thing sound strangely like a minor version of "Clocks." (insert rabid drooling here)

You can now hear "Speed Of Sound" on the new Coldplayer. I like it, but it seems a little too similar to "Clocks" for me to really enjoy it. Maybe the similarities won't stand out on repeated listens.

the Itunes store has the "Speed Of Sound" single now.
honestly, i do like it. but it doesn't sound all that different from any song off AROBTTH.
Coldplay is great, but Chris' bravado about how they were making "the best album you've ever heard" was quite a bit over the top.
they're cool and all, but gee, keep your ego in check. gosh.

You're allowed to have an ego if you've got the musical goods to back it up. Which U2 does. Coldplay, so far, doesn't. That was mostly a joke. And I don't think there's anything wrong with believing in the quality of your work, or aspiring to do the best work you've ever done. But when you continually state that the latest thing you've done is the best thing you've ever done (or that it should have been the first thing you ever did, in U2's case), after a while, I'm kind of like, whatever dude, your old stuff was better. And I would say that a good third of the tracks on How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb don't have as many "musical goods" as the better tracks on A Rush of Blood to the Head or Parachutes. But when both bands are at their best, U2 does in fact blow Coldplay out of the water. So I won't argue with you there - or at least, not too much. Anyway, the bottom line is that it's great to be happy with what you've done. But let's tone down the hubris a bit. I don't care if you're Bono or Chris Martin or whoever else. It's not necessary and it only undermines an otherwise good image. NP: "Under My Skin", Skillet

I've decided to counter all this crazy stuff about egotism and being too well-known by simply never releasing an album. After all, if something is cooler because i think less of it, and it's cooler because it's more "indie", then something so underground and so terrible that i won't even record it must be the greatest album ever!
Yeah....so the greatest album of all time doesn't exist, because if someone had heard of it, it would be less "indie", and thus less great. Or maybe i'm crazy and it's getting late here, pick one.

A friend of mine who had dled Speed of Sound let me hear it yesterday. After that we listened to Clocks. Then, we preceded to go upstairs to the piano. We figured out the notes on the piano and I played it. The piano line in SoS is pretty much the same as it is in Clocks. It's the same progression, same intervals of notes, just slowed down a bit. And Clocks is better.
Also, note the arrangement of the two songs. "Haunting" piano line, synths, and a repetitive drum beat, with Martin's soft falsetto-trying-to-sound-like-U2-but-without-the-power voice. Yeah. Martin sounds like Bono on SoS. In fact SoS could be a B-side for HTDAAB. Except Bono's a better singer (despite his tattered voice). And U2 is a better band (despite the fact that they are not at their peak).
Coldplay. Or rather Chris Martin. Get over yourself. You are not going to save pop music. You are not the Einsteins of music. You make mediocre, uncreative pop slough. Get over it.
