I've seen Animal Farm mentioned a few times on this board, as well as other works of a similar nature. I'm sure there are plenty that I haven't read as well, but the following books all seem to present a cautionary, perhaps cynical view of a possible future:
Communism
Orwell - Animal Farm

Psychological control/total surveillance/thought police
Orwell - 1984

Eugenics
Huxley - Brave New World
Heinlen - Beyond this Horizon

Communism/intellectual repression
Rand - Anthem
LeGuin - The Masters

Scapegoat
Lowry - The Giver
LeGuin - Those Who Walk Away From Omelas

Has anyone read these? Any more to add?

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception.

Many, if not all of Kurt Vonnegut's novels could fit quite comfortably on this list.

We, Yevgeny Zamyatin
Very, very similiar to 1984, but it was written before Orwell's work.

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:

Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

I just came across an interesting article called "Orwell for Christians."
