Second-Guess the Critic SCOREBOARD

Here's a thread for us to keep score for this game.

The scorekeeping system, copied from one of murlough's posts:

So, if we have three critics for a round (me, Josh, and bloop - not saying these will be the only ones, but this is a simple example), and we have ten people playing including the three of us, then at the end of the round, here's how the scores will work:

murlough: (Score for guessing Josh's rating + Score for guessing bloop's rating)/2
Josh: (Score for guessing murlough's rating + Score for guessing bloop's rating)/2
bloop: (Score for guessing Josh's rating + Score for guessing murlough's rating)/2
Everyone else: (Score for guessing murlough's rating + Score for guessing Josh's rating + Score for guessing bloop's rating)/3

If you don't guess a rating for someone other than yourself who is a critic in that round, you get a 0 score for that.

Here's a breakdown of the scoring system, and a sample of how a round would be scored, copied from one of my posts in the original thread for this game:

Exact match = 10 points
+/- 1 star = 5 points
+/- 2 stars = 2 points
+/- 3 or 4 stars = 0 points
No guess = 0 points

During each round, we'll average your scores for all of your guesses. So, if there were three things to guess at, you'd get your total for those three divided by 3, unless you were one of the critics for that round, in which case it's divided by two. (So being a critic means that you have fewer chances to get points, but also fewer chances to screw up).

People are welcome to jump in, and even participate as critics, at any point in the game (though if you want to be a critic, say so during the preceding round so I can have that set up at the beginning of the next round), but everyone will get 0 for a round that they did not participate in, and that works retroactively for those who join in the middle of the game (so if you weren't there at the beginning, don't expect to win unless everyone else really sucks at this).

Here's how a sample round might go (these results are intentionally ludicrous so that no one mistakes this for reality):

Murlough's album: Strong Tower, Kutless (he ends up rating it a 1)
bloop's album: Zip Zap Rap, Devastatin' Dave (he ends up rating it a 3)
Josh's album: Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, Limp Bizkit (he ends up rating it a 4)

Murlough's guesses: bloop - 5; Josh - 2
bloop's guesses: Murlough - 2; Josh - 3
Josh's guesses: Murlough - 4; bloop - 5
Danny's guesses: Murlough - 3; bloop - 1; Josh - 4
dgp's guesses: Murlough - 1; bloop - 2

Here's how the scoring would work for this round:

Murlough: (2 + 2)/2 = 2
bloop: (5 + 5)/2 = 5
Josh: (0 + 2)/2 = 1
Danny: (2 + 2 + 10)/3 = 4.66... (rounds up to 4.7)
dgp: (10 + 5 + 0)/3 = 5 (the "0" is because he failed to guess for Josh)

So you can see how hitting the nail on the head for one critic is to your advantage, even if you screw up elsewhere.

On a personal note, is worldofcm that good, or are we just more predictable than he is?

I would imagine my 2 threw a few people off.  I just couldn't give anything better than that after one last listen through last night.  This next round should be much easier for people to predict about me.

Funny thing is, a lot of answers last round were pure guesses.  I'm sure it won't turn out that good all the time.

I'll admit that it totally threw me off; you're generally more lenient than I am with such albums. But then, my 2 on Lifehouse was probably a bit of a shocker as well.

I can accept luck for one round, but two? Stop being so humble.

If you take away the album he reviewed, him and I both nailed three of them, and were off by one on two of them...but because I didn't review an album, I had an extra guess (the album Josh reviewed), and nailed it...thus giving me an 8.6 and him an 8.3.  Of course, with that extra guess I could have also missed it completely and dropped my total score...

I understand that theirs are divided by 6 instead of 7...but with nailing an album being worth so much, if someone uses that extra guess and gets 10 points,  the reviewers are at a disadvantage.

EDIT:  this also happened with Bloop, who got an 8.3, and DPG, who got 8.6.

Yeah, but it's 6 guesses versus 7 and either way, it's a lot to get right. You could argue that we critics have a better chance at getting a perfect score, because we have fewer opportunities to screw up. Either way, each guess is an opportunity to get big points or to screw up, and most of the time it seems like folks get 5's. There were a lot of 10's in the last round; I think that one was slightly easier.

Anyway, if it turns out that I'm at a disadvantage, I don't mind. I'm having fun.

If Schil had guessed her usual "4 for everyone", she'd have scored 65/7, or 9.3, which would be the highest score for anyone for a single round so far.

I was kinda guessing that Josh wouldn't give the album he was reviewing a 4 so that's why I had initially chosen 3.

even if I had gotten the highest score for a single round, I'd still have the same rank right above Wanderer and Wildcat, whose absent presence keeps me from being in last place, hehe. I'm going to have to calculate what my score would have been if I had guessed 4 for everyone on round one.
