Anyone else a big fan of the Fantastic Four or is looking forward to seeing this movie? They have been my favorite comic book since I was about 7 years old waaaaaaaay back in 1963. I can't wait for this movie although I am a bit peeved that Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) has dark hair, when he is supposed have blonde hair. Why do film makers change things so drastically? =) Here is a link about the movie: http://movies.channel.aol.com/movie/main.a...=16227&uid=5532

I've always liked the Fantastic Four, but the trailer for this one looks pretty lame, with some very bad CG...

Yeah, when I saw the preview I was fairly unimpressed. Like most comic book things, the only exposure to the franchise I have is the animated cartoon, which was decent but not stellar. It's a pretty tough undertaking--all the powers of the F4 seem to require fairly intense CG.

I am more excited after seeing the new trailer before Star Wars. It looked alot better than the first trailer... I'm just concerned about how they did The Thing... the costume's a bit... fake looking. Plus he isn't big enough! [_[

I was upset not only with the Thing's appearnce but also the fact that Johnny Storm has dark hair in the movie!! The guy is a blond!! I just don't like it when they take such liberty with a character. In any case, I am looking forward to this movie because the FF are my all time fav comic book heros. I was never a fan of X-men or Spiderman and the movies were just ok for me. I love Wolverine but that's about it.

I agree with you about Sue. Sue Richards is not of Spanish descent, but at least her hair is blond in the movie!!! I'm all for any actors getting plumb roles but not at the expense of changing the characters ethnicity so dramatically.

But, really, how much does the ethnicity of the character matter, in this case? It might matter in Lord of the Rings, just as hair color might matter with X-Men's The Beast, but I don't see how it affects this particular film in any substantial way.

Also, The Thing should be about 1000 pounds, not a semi-big guy in a rubber suit!! .....One other example: I didn't like it when Swarzennegger parted his hair in the middle when he played Conan either. Conan had a square cut black mane....no part. And he never wore a band around his head!! That was a main part of his character and Arnold ruined it completely.

FF are my favorite comics, as well. I also love Xmen and Spiderman too, though, and doubt that this movie will be able to match their cinematic versions. But I could be wrong. I'm going to see it and find out.

Speaking of XMen, I feel like watching those movies again. I've always liked the XMen characters anyway (and it helps that Hugh Jackman is so smokin' hot as Wolverine . . . haha). I still haven't seen Spiderman 2 yet. I liked the first one, though. I've seen that one about seven times though, after seeing it in the theater, then with my cousins, and on TV numerous times. Oh well. The trailer for Fantastic Four that I saw a week or so ago looks really good--the Thing still looks sort of fake, but I'll suspend my disbelief.

Let me rephrase a bit: I liked the original X-Men from the 1963 debut comic book. I don't like the new versions much. Back then, the Beast was human looking with big feet and hands, the Angel was just the 'Angel' and not 'Arch Angel'. Iceman was an original X-Man. Jean Greay also. And Cyclops. The stories were much simpler and direct back then. The X-pMen comics turned in to convoluted messages in the late severnties and added too many characters.

I'm actually getting used to what The Thing looks like. He seems bigger than I thought he was, although he should still be a bit bigger. I guess I may get used to Johnny Storm's dark hair...... I'm getting psyched up for this movie more than ever now.

God, they're whoring this movie to death. I saw TWO different trailers for it before Cinderella Man, and in the past month or so I've seen it before every movie I've watched. Not to mention the ones on TV.

Not surprising. I know a couple of people who have seen it and they were furious about it, claiming that it completely ruined the Fantastic 4 story and showed a complete lack of skill on the part of the cast and the director.

Yikes... Ebert hates it! And the really good superhero movies, like "Superman," "SpiderMan 2" and "Batman Begins," leave "Fantastic Four" so far behind that the movie should almost be ashamed to show itself in the same theaters.

It's doing very well with the critics. Gene Shalit loved it, and so did a few other well known critics. I can see it now: all the 'Fantastic Four' bashers are going to come out of the woodwork on the networks and in print. They don't want it to do better than their precious X-Men and Spiderman, two comics that I have never liked much. I don't care much for 'Rotten Tomatoes'. They are always looking to make certain films look bad.

All they are is a compilation of various critical reviews. Don't judge them by the message boards. I've found it to be a very useful site if I want to find out what critics thought of a movie, or find out some general info.
From what I'm hearing, it's fans of the Fantastic Four comics who are hating the movie as well, so your argument is likely not true.

1. I could care less what critics say about anything if I like it. 2. Anyone can be a critic. If they could act they would be actors, that's why they call them critics.

2. Anyone can be a critic. Yes, but very few people can be good critics. Steven Greydanus is a good critic; Gene Shallit is not. Look, nobody's trying to dissuade you from liking this film, Paul, or arguing with your right to enjoy it. This thread isn't really about your opinion of the film either way. When it comes to new movies, we generally like contributing to the critical dialouge here, and in doing so we find it helpful to read the comments of trusted film reviewers.

1. I could care less what critics say about anything if I like it. I'm the same way, I just find critics who I know to like things I like and dislike things I dislike to be a very helpful guide to the music I buy. I use movie critics as a general guide, if most critics hate it, I'll wait till video, if it's about 50/50, I could go either way, if most like it, I'll try to see it in theaters. 2. Anyone can be a critic. Everyone's a critic because we all have thoughts. Good critics are hard to come by. If they could act they would be actors, that's why they call them critics. Doesn't have anything to do with it. How do you know some critics can't act?

If they could act they would be actors, that's why they call them critics. Doesn't have anything to do with it. How do you know some critics can't act? Nothing against critics per se (or teachers), but there is an old saying: "Those who can, do, and those who can't, teach". In other words: "Those who can, act, those who can't, critique".

yikes. Well, maybe my family will be filling our movie theater quota with Batman instead of F4. This looks pretty bad . . . I'll wait for the video. I might be different than the average movie fan, but when it comes to comic book movies, I go by what comic books I like. I am not a fan of Batman, X-men or Spiderman, so it won't matter if iIsee those movies or not. I could care less if every critic in the world loved 'Batman Begins', that won't make me see it over Fantastic Four. Since the Fantastic Four is my favorite comic book of all time, and since the Thing is my favorite comic book hero of all time (Galactus is my favorite villian), I must see that movie, no matter what people say. And because I am a fan of FF, I will no doubt like that movie better than any other comic book movie and maybe even better than any movie of all time, including the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, which tentatively are my three favorite movies of all time simply because I like the books.
