As for the others, I think they've just moved on.
That's one thing I miss about CMC.....topics like this would stay popular for weeks or even months.

I never was bashing the movie, I've never seen it, so it would be silly to bash it.

So....what villian do you think will be in the sequel?
The Mole Man?
Personally, I would LOVE to see Galactus, my all time favorite super villian! That way they could introduce the Silver Surfer (since he was herald of Galactus, finding him worlds to devour the energy when they first met the FF) for a spin off!

It made $22,725,000 this past weekend, and in total, $100,137,492.

It's at close to $125 million now.....a very respectable figure considering the blood bath the critics gave it. I love when this happens..... when people ignore critics and like something just because they like it.

Can't say that I react in kind; seems to me like another sign of our culture's excruciating dumbing-down process.

(And say, as a professional film critic, shouldn't I be offended by your frequent generalizations about the critical community?)

No, you shouldn't be offended.
In my estimation, anyone can be a 'professional; film critic'. All it is is the perception of the person reviewing the film. With all due respect, I don't consider your 'professional' opinion, or Ebert's 'professional opinion, and better than my opinion.

And shouldn't I be offended about your 'dumbing down' remark? You are assuming that since the majority of 'professional film critics' bashed the film that it is a bad film.
It's all opinion, nothing more. Also, critics tend to piggyback each other and jump on bandwagons.

Wow... more of your lame generalizations about critics. I actually would be offended by it if it weren't for the fact that they're entirely baseless, unfounded claims, devoid of any hint of intellectual rigor.

Whatever. rolleyes
You didn't answer my remark that you think people are 'dumbing down' because most critics bashed the film.
Have you ever stopped to think that maybe the critics are all wrong and the people are right?

That's a gross misstatement of what I actually said, but, to answer what I think you're trying to ask me, a good film critic-- and that doesn't just mean pholks who write reviews and get paid to see movies, but anyone who engages in critical thinking about cinema, like we do here at the Phorum or over at the Arts and Faith board-- can fairly and intelligently weigh a movie's pros and cons, discern what it's all about, and offer a thoughtful, logical reflection of why they liked the film. Someone who refuses to engage in critical thinking can only make shallow, empty remarks like "I thought it was cool" or "I didn't like it." To that end, one couldn't say that the "critics" are right and the "people" are wrong because the people don't even have a platform on which to stand; in order to be right about something, you have to actually SAY something.

^I disagree to an extent.
Sure, some people go no deeper than "it was a fun movie".
However, I'm sure many of FF's movie going defenders can say much more than "It was cool."
Also, you seem to have forgotten, that about 25% of professional critics liked it,
and I'm sure their reviews consisted of more than, "I had a good time."

I thought that maybe this movie would be my favorite non Abbott and Costello movie of all time, but, even though it was good and I really enjoyed it, I still have to put the three LOTR movies ahead of it.
So, my new list of top 7 all time favs is:
1-3: The three LOTR movies
4..... Fantastic Four
5-7: The three Indiana Jones movies
