Danny, where the heck did you dig up this Wormsign band? AMG doesn't even have an entry for them... Hmm. If something is so obscure that it's not even in AMG, I might have to reconsider whether it's valid. Maybe we should require people to post a link with soundclips from the album they're reviewing? bdg - The Wedding, The Wedding: 3 stars Josh - Ghetto Bells, Vic Chestnut: 5 stars Murlough - Drunkard's Prayer, Over the Rhine: 4 stars (the only one I didn't need outside research) WorldofCM - House of Heroes, House of Heroes: 4 stars danny - Big in Japan, Wormsign: 3 stars
No clips of House of Heroes on AMG yet, and I haven't found time to download danny's choice, so I'll add those later.
btw, since we all can just omit guesses, there seems to be no particular advantage for picking something very obscure, not that I think that was the strategy. However, there may be some advantage to picking something that doesn't fully line up with the usual raves (which is kind of a rationale for picking Anberlin this round). Just for example, I don't think I'd pick a Radiohead album for this game unless I really didn't find it to be that good (then, of course, if I do choose that one people can now better guess what to go with).

It was my understanding that if you omit a guess that it just doesn't count for or against you. Good you cleared that up. So, just the opposite of what I said is true. The more obscure and difficult to research, the better for yourself.

So, just the opposite of what I said is true. The more obscure and difficult to research, the better for yourself. True, I suppose, but I was hoping that we'd go with stuff that we were listening to anyway, instead of purposefully choosing random stuff to outwit the others. Anyway, I'll enforce the rule I previously mentioned. If it's not in AMG and you can't provide a link with sound clips, it's not allowed. Danny's entry is OK because he provided sound clips (more than that, actually).

Go here to find some full mp3's. They are not the final album version, but Mercedes Baby, Buckets For Bullet Wounds, and Friday Night are all on the Gotee album.

Sorry to be a stickler, but I need to hear some of what's actually on the album. If that's not possible then this album might need to wait until after it's released (and sites like musichristian.com, for example, have sound clips up) to be a part of the game.

I'll try better next time. It's OK. I didn't even consider that this would be an issue until you guys started picking stuff I'd never heard of that, in some cases, wasn't released yet. I forgot I was dealing with real critics here, who get stuff early. Anyway, we'll make that a definite rule for the future, but don't feel bad for not being able to read my mind about it. Why don't we just make a link to some clips standard routine for everyone whenever we announce our next album? Maybe, when you propose an album, you should check Amazon, AMG, etc. to see if it's going to be difficult to track down clips. If so, then yeah, providing clips should be standard. But if they've got clips at freaking Amazon then it's probably not going to be necessary...

OMG! I'm in the company of real critics?!! Quiet, you. Why don't we just make a link to some clips standard routine for everyone whenever we announce our next album? I like Josh's suggestion - provide a link with clips if they can't be found in the usual places (AMG, Amazon, CDUniverse, and I'd suggest Musichristian.com or Christianbook.com for CCM stuff). LOL. Whenever people ask me why I get free music - I'm always like, "cause I review".

"YOU review music?" is generally the typical response. Yeah, I get that a lot too. Of course, I have other ways of getting music before it's released sometimes... but I wouldn't have the actual CD, cover art and all, in those cases.

I'll make the rule about choosing albums for the next round that you have to PM them to me at any time during the previous round. This round is set to end Wednesday at Midnight Pacific time, so any time before then is fine.
We'll reserve Thursdays for posting our actual ratings, and you can all expect the scores to be updated mid-day Thursday (or evening at the latest), assuming of course that I get ratings for everyone in time.
If, for some reason, someone is unable to post their rating on Thursday, they can PM it to me on Wednesday, so long as I've already guessed at their rating for the album. For obvious reasons, I'd like to avoid doing this (I won't cheat and change my guess, but I'd rather rely on the honor system as little as possible here), but if it can't be avoided, arrangements can be made. I'm open to alternative suggestions if such a situation should arise. (Perhaps the rating can be given to someone else who has either already guessed or isn't playing, and they can post it by proxy on Thursday?)

With soulseek and bittorrent, anyone can be a real critic now, I guess. I think that how seriously some people in CCM take my site proves that truly anyone can be a "real critic". And I mean anyone, you don't even have to post reviews regularly or rate anything to please some people. Are we allowed to do older albums? I'm thinking of doing a 2004 release next week.
