just wondering if anybody else has heard of Matt Mahaffey's band. my first exposure to Self was his fluke hit "Cannon." but his last album to get released, "Gizmodgery" was nothing short of genius. the ENTIRE album was made with children's toy instruments. there are some occasional crude words, but musically this was a triumph. in fact, sadly the crudest song was one of the best musically. it was called "Trunk Fulla Amps." think Beck on steroids and you'd be close to what this one sounds like.
he even covered "What A Fool Believes" by the Doobie Brothers on toy instruments. what a hoot.

recently he finished a brand new album in 2004, but his label Dreamworks was bought out and the new owner won't release his album. GRRR

so he's been making money doing movie stuff, like the American Idol spoof at the end of Shrek was produced by him. and the Expedia.com  & Jumbone commercials were composed and performed by him. LOL

here's a link to a site with sound clips:
http://www.selfies.com/

and here's his official site with a funny intro:
http://www.selfmusic.net/

tell me what you guys think of his quirky style.
