I noticed there was no thread for 'American idol' on here, and after my initial shock where my heart stopped for a second, and after I caught my breath, I decided to make one. Are there any 'American Idol' fans here besides 'The Wanderer' and me? Anyway, here is my current list in order of best to least (DUH, right?) ..........1. Vonzell.....She blows me away. She is so talented and has a unique stage presence. She is a amil carrier and I'm 49 years old and I can't recall ANY mail carrier looking as beautiful as she is. (Not that I notice these things..... ) ..........2. Carrie.....She seems to be the one everyone is going crazy over and indeed she has been the most constsent throughout the competition, although Vonzell has been more consistent to me in that last three weeks. I guess I'm not a country fan because even though I think Carrie is fabulous, her performing style is stiff and boring. I'm not saying she has to dance, but she doesn't even move at all. I think she needs a coach to help her with her stage prescence. ..........3. Constantine has become a favorite of mine. I respect the way he tries every musical style and isn't afraid to go out on a limb. ..........4. Nadia has that old soul and r&b style of the sixties and I like that. Her range is not impressive, but I like singers who sing in her style. ..........5. Bo is good. Definetely not my style. I'n not into secular rock at all, although i do like some CCM rock, but the old Sonicflood is as far as I go. ..........6. Anwar used to be my second favorite behind Vonzell, but he's dropping like a 200 pound rock. Same style every week. Shaky vocals with a BIG note at the end. Blah. ..........7. Anthony used to be a favorite of mine but he's slowly slid waaaay downhill. He needs to go soon. ..........8. Scott has gotten worse each week. He needs to go this week.

My system, which hinges on the show being somehow rigged, is that a white male or a non-black minority group member will win.
We already have a white female, a black male and female, as winners. If the show is somehow rigged, my system will be true.
I like Bo the best, then maybe Vonzell, nobody else really sticks out to me.
Constantine must go! He irritates me almost as badly as mikelah.

American Idol is useless crap. The only person I care about on that show is Simon Cowell. *Ahem*...I shall ignore such balderdash..... OK, on to tonight's show: 1. Vonzell was the best for me again. I just love her performances and her energy. It doesn't matter if she wins or not, some record company is going to gobble her up either way. 2. Carrie was cool tonight. Contrary to what Simon said, I thought she really performed well, and her voice was magnificent as usual. 3. I liked Nadia. I don't what the heck was wrong with all the judges. She gave a wonderfully understated performance and she looked beautiful. 4. Constantine was good again. Not a favorite song of mine, but he performed it a good as it can be performed. 5. Bo was also good. I liked his performance but it didn't light any spark with me. 6. Anthony was ok. He just bores me lately. 7. Anwar continues to go downhill in my mind. His voice is becoming aggravating for some reason. 8. Scott sang "She's Gone". Hope fully it'll turn out to be "he's gone".

Scott was such an IDIOT!
"I'm the real rocker", then he goes and does a pop ballad, come on. "all those people at home don't have the nerve to do this, so I rock", and thus he offends anyone who didn't try out because they couldn't get there, or was simply not eligible.
He officially became irritating, I actually want him off more than Constantine now.

I don't know - the pseudo-operatic grandeur of the work wasn't there in Constantine's performance. Also, that song is best when it's given time to breathe. In other words, I don't think it even could work on AI. I didn't catch the early performers (Bo, Nadia, Anthony), so the best one I actually saw would have to be Vonzell's as well.

Awww...when I saw the two little girls crying in the audience I choked up myself. Nadia is one classy lady. I think she has a big future ahead of her. I would have rather seen Bo go, but that's the way the ball bounces. Anyway, it's crazy that Scott and Anthony are still there and Nadia is gone.

I wish Scott had been voted off, Nadia actually had talent, she just chose songs poorly.

At this point, I'm starting to seriously wonder why anyone would WANT to win this...I mean, Nadia and Bo (tonight's bottom 2) both have been in bands and have the stage presence and talent and comfort level to show it...I'm not sure, if I'm them, that I want to WIN this. The exposure of being on it is nice, but I think I'd rather not win it.

I wish Scott had been voted off, Nadia actually had talent, she just chose songs poorly. I completely agree. "Whatever, man. This was a dare." I thought to myself "Wow. Good for you" as most get all emotional and weepy. I wanted Scott to leave, too. Nadia has the potential to be what I consider a real artist, just given the risks she's willing to take in her covers (obviously, we have yet to see if any of them can actually write a song). Her kind of deeper vocals are also rather good I thought, in general. I'm with Simon on Carrie's song (the "kitten trying to be a tiger" thing made me laugh), but I might say that about Pat Benatar, too.

Simon didn't mean it in terms of how she looks, but in terms of letting herself go all out. Carrie rocked pretty well, but she was still stiff compared to most true female rockers.

.....I can hardly believe that Scott.....got more votes than Bo..... Ahhh.....Ryan is very tricky you see. Unless he specifically says something, all may not be as it seems. For instance, when he sends someone back to safety, he never says "you had the third lowest votes so you are safe." No, he just says, "I'm going to send someone back to safety." And after the person sits down, he doesn't say to the remaining two people, "you both had the lowest number of votes." He just says , "one of you had the lowest number of votes." So, it is very possible (I would say even probable) that Scott had the 2nd lowest total and Bo had the 3rd, but for dramatic effect, Ryan left Bo up there with Nadia.

ok, so i didn't see it last night. (in my defense i'm gonna say i wouldn't even care about this show if my wife didn't insist on watching it...) i didn't see it because (A) i was at church and (B) i programmed my VCR to tape Lost because there is no way in heck that AI is gonna be taped instead of Lost. sadly, i didn't know Lost was a repeat.
so i take it Nadia was voted off?
too bad, i thought she was a very classy lady with a great voice. she was better than several of those that remain. Bo should TOTALLY have gone instead. i'm not hating on him personally, but i can't stand Lynyrd Skynyrd. Gosh, what a waste or airtime.
and about Constantine, at first i thought he was a weak link. and while he may not have the best voice, i admit i was quite impressed that he'd sing a Queen song during a show that has digressed into a Whitney sing-along. he gets props from me for that. if he'd sung "Fat Bottom Girls" or "Another One Bites The Dust" i think he'd have brought the house down. but "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a song that nobody but Freddy Mercury could do justice to. but he gets an A+ for trying. that took guts.

The exposure of being on it is nice, but I think I'd rather not win it. It's still not enough. Even winning is no guarantee of success, but it does give you the most consumer awareness. Clay Aiken is the only non-winner to hit platinum status (he and Kelly have had the best overall sales). Josh Gracin is having some success in the country market. Every other contestant who has released an album (ie: Tamyra Gray, Justin Guarini, Kimberly Locke) has not have the kind of sales that are indicative of a hit record. Others haven't even had a record. Winning is still the best way to kick start a career if that's what you want to have.

Winning is still the best way to kick start a career if that's what you want to have. Winning will give them the most exposure at first, but don't you agree that if a singer has talent that exposure in front of 30 million people for weeks is a good way to jump start a career? I mean, talent scouts find singers at local shows or auditions that only a few hundred people see. If any of those people can't make it after all of that free publicity, then they really need to hang it up.

But my point is that, thus far, it may give them an advantage over, say, your local show people, but it hasn't helped to the point of translating into big sales and hit records, other than for the few I mentioned above. It's especially hard in today's radio market. AI contestants have an advantage but also are automatically stigmatized. Winning gives you a cache that finalist #6, for instance, does not have. But even winning doesn't, again, mean automatic success - both Fantasia and Reuben have not sold up to expectations. Season 3 in general hasn't sold well - Diana DeGarmo's album stalled right out of the gate and all the other contestants that Fantasia claimed have records out haven't even shown up on radar.

I was wondering about Fantasia's 'everyone from last year has a record deal' remark! Oh, one more thing. Even though Tamyrah hasn't sold a ton of records, she is now an established actress, and maybe some of the other contestants will go that route and have more success in other areas of entertainment.

Tonight's show in order of preference: 1. Vonzell...WOW!!! One of THE best performances ever on American Idol! She is just fantastic. 2. Bo nailed his song. He has great stage prescence and charisma. 3. Scott was surprisingly good this week. He seemed perfectly at ease and grooved with the song. 4. Anthony was also very good. He seemed at home singing that song and had a great time. 5. Anwar....another luke warm performance. He is totally boring to me now. 6. Constantine...I didn't really like his performance much, especially that first big warbling note he hit. Not very good. 7. Carrie...What were Randy and Paula thinking? She was H O R R I B L E! Off pitch, too loud in the wrong places. My ears are still ringing.

I still think Anwar would tear up a good Stevie Wonder song. Anyway, my favorite now is Vonzell, but Bo isn't far behind, so I agree with you up to that point. Scott and Anthony, however, are bleh.

I think Paula is on something half the time. She can't tell between a crappy performance and a great one, though I did hear her criticize Nadia, so she's not high all the time.
I didn't watch this week.

But I didn't care about anwar, so I'm not annoyed. But my system has been holding true thus far, hmmm.... Why was it CRAP? Because they wasted 5 minutes on that stupid film on Ryan? That had to be the biggest waste of time from all four seasons. Because of that, as usual, the person leaving didn't get to finish his song. Very bad production values. It was also confusing. Did Ryan actually get a star or not? -----Anyway, I was glad that Anwar left. His voice and style of singing was the same week after week. It's funny because I thought he was one of the best in the beginning until Vonzell cemented her # 1 status with me permanently. However, if she does sing worse than another contestant I will say so. -----Ryan was so tricky tonight. He pulled that same stunt he pulled with Jenniferlast year when he told her to join the top group ans she went with Latoya's group. Only this time, the best group WAS the top group!

I know Anwar is nothing special, but he beats Scott, so I want Scott gone, because he has displayed as much or less talent throughout the season. I'm just happy Bo didn't go.
