Well, it looks like the album won't be getting all bad reviews, anyway... Rolling Stone is ranting and raving, as we all knew they would.

That's probably the biggest contributing factor to me not buying it yet. It's $19.99 at FYE, the only place I can find it (Which could be an acronym for Fork-over Your Earnings).
Well, I just bought it last week for 7.99 at a used cd store down here in PA.  If I find another copy, I'll pick it up for you.

Woo. The only White Stripes C.D. my local used C.D. store has is White Blood Cells (which I bought from them, but they got another one, apparently).

Got the album for 9.99 last night at KMart.  I love it already.  My favorite songs so far are Take, Take, Take and Blue Orchid.  I need to listen to it another few times before I give it a grade.  However, I already like it more than White Blood Cells and the self-titled disc.  It might end up #1 pushing Elephant to #3 and De Stijl to #2.  We'll see.

Yeah, I just have too much on my plate to digest well, so to speak, so give me some time there.  It's not very focused, and I'm not sure what I think about that yet, Josh.  I think Elephant will probably end up topping this one in my book, though, if that gives you any idea.

Elephant is a lot more polished and clean sounding than this album.  GBMS sounds a bit like the production on De Stijl and White Blood Cells.  It's done well, but not polished to perfection.

Get Behind Me Satan has convinced me that Jack White is some unknown child of Robert Plant.  He has the spirit of RP in him on this disc.    They use alot of piano on this album and the last song is a very gospel sounding tune.  Jack and Meg also have a bluegrass/quartet sounding tune called "Little Ghost"  Sounds like something that would be on a O Brother Where Art Thou disc.

more thoughts later

Yeah, "Little Ghost" is a highlight I think, as is their first single from the album.  I'm back and forth here a little bit.  I appreciate them branching out more than usual, but none of it seems truly ambitious for a band so hailed as the Stripes.  It's one of those albums that is really just a collection of songs unless I've missed the overarching concept or theme of the record.  How you like it probably depends mostly on how you can like that kind of record.

It's by no means a bad record, just judging it by its songs, but I'm just a little fed up by the hyperbole spread around about this band by the mainstream press I guess.

Overall, it's not as stellar as Elephant but I it's in the top three along with De Stijl

I'm really getting into this disc. I'd say the highlights are "Blue Orchid", "The Denial Twist", and "Take, Take, Take". "My Doorbell" is also very catchy (if a little repetitive). I'll have to decide what place it takes among their other CDs after I get De Stijl and their self-titled.

"Take, Take, Take" must be one particular moment Wanderer was thinking about with his Robert Plant comment.  Indeed, I think that song will make a decent splash on the radio, and the radio will be a better place for it.

"Take, Take, Take" is just one of the songs that I said aloud in the car "Damn, I didn't know Robert Plant had an American son!"  When I get the chance to sit down for a while and compose thoughts, i'll write a review perhaps.

I also recommend getting Under Blackpool Lights, the DVD they recorded in Blackpool England back in January 2004.  Jack's guitar work really shines on the disc.  If people saw that, they would give the stripes more credit.  Jack is probably one of the top 5 guitarists currently.  He has the same intensity and soul that great players like Hendrix and Page had.  He just goes nuts.  I also cannot forget that Meg looks like she is having an orgasm on some of the songs.  She really does wail in live shows and she was convulsing insanely.  I was like..woah calm down..its music not sex!

I'm listening to a stream of this album, my initial reaction is something like "holy crap!" meaning that I'm not quite sure what I think of it yet.

once again i really enjoyed megs vocal performance. i think that it would be pretty cool if jack and meg would do a double fantasy of sorts. meaning that jack would do halfthe album and meg would do that other half of the album. just a thought
