I was wondering what you all thought about this topic. I am going to see 28 Days Later this evening. I kinda like to be scared, or at least be interested in how people try to scare me. Anyways, that's all I really have to post right now... Actually, I wonder if josh, or whomever registered this domain, would be willing to let me give the graphics a makeover...

I'm not a huge fan of the genre, but 28 Days Later is supposed to be EXCELLENT. I might end up seeing it myself... And yeah, if you want to help out with the graphics, e-mail or PM Vlad! about it. He's handling most of that, and I think he knows pretty much what I want the page to look like. He can give you temporary Admin. powers to help him out if he so desires. So just talk to him about it.

I too have heard interesting things about 28 days later. Reminds me a bit of the excellent book Day of the Triffids, actually, though it's not about psychotic plants Anyway, I guess it depends on what you consider 'horror' to be. I'm more of a 'thriller' fan (such as Jurassic Park and maybe even Signs) than a true 'horror' fan, but whatever. I like the 'Your mom' response, too. We should hard-code it into the phorum, so every poll has an automatic 'your mom' option :D

Actually, I wonder if josh, or whomever registered this domain, would be willing to let me give the graphics a makeover... A couple other off-topic thoughts: first, the platypus (if that's what it is) with the rocket launcher is excellent ^_^ Also, as I mentioned in my pm, you (or anyone else) are free to e-mail me graphics and the like...no guarnatees that I'll use them, but if Josh and I like them then we'll be sure to put them up and give you credit...

I'm a wimp when it comes to scary movies. "Signs" was about all I could take. But, like Vlad!, I do enjoy thriller flicks. Just not any that make me jump.

Insomnia is one of the best thrillers I've ever seen. In fact, I'm thinking about editing my Top 5 Movie Picks from last year and adding Insomnia (and Spirited Away). It's got top-notch performances from the amazing Al Pacino and the astonishingly restrained Robin Williams, and it poses some interesting questions. It's a thinking man's thriller, I suppose.
It's not really scary, but it's intense and mysterious. Great film.

whenever I see or hear about 28 Days Later I think of some weird sequal to 28 Days with Sandra Bullock and Viggo Mortensen... :-P
I'm not inclined to watching horror movies. I do enjoy some thrillers and suspenseful movies, and I don't mind if there are some scary parts (more in a startling way than in a horrific way), but I don't like gore and monsters and vampires and serial killers and cannibals and "death is coming to get you" sort of stuff. not so much because they make me scared, but because I don't like the evilness or darkness or terror or whatever that those movies seem to have as the main attraction.
I saw Insomnia and wasn't impressed. what were some of the interesting questions it poses? I don't remember thinking anything except something like "huh? that's it?" when it was over.

Yeah, movies like Final Destination and The Ring seem more like a roller coaster--a blatant play on the emotions without any real worthwhile content--than a movie.

Insomnia was focused around the question of whether the ends justify the means. For example- mild spoilers here, by the way- Pacino's character knew of certain criminals who were guilty. These REALLY were murderers and the like, but since the criminal justice system had loopholes, ways the murderers could possible go unpunished, Pacino would plant evidence or something to make sure that the men were punished.
In the end, all that's happening is that a murderer is getting what he justly deserves... but does that make it okay for Pacino to bend the rules along the way?

Interesting summary... and interesting spelling of "entertaining." =)
I want to see this film. The cinemetography and "foreign film feel" especially appeal to me, and early reviews have been promising.

Confidential, which touches on that same subject in a way, so I was kinda thinking about that lately.

intertaining is a good way to spell it... inter = Between; among enter = To come or go into yeah, I must be right...

How did they empty the streets of London? I thought Londoners were above that kind of foolishness

my guess was a bunch of stills digitally and cleverly rotoscoped into the background. i really cannot tell if it was digital or not, making it all the more impressive...

Seeing the empty streets of London is spooky, and it looks as though Boyle actually shot it that way. It doesn't look like a special effect, which made me even more surprised that Boyle didn't shoot on film, because it's not every day that you get to empty out the city of London. Then again, maybe it was a special effect after all, made easier to fake by the medium of digital video It's really hard to tell what he's trying to get across...was it digital or not? The videography is not bad, but it is more functional than impressive. Scenes are staged and photographed like a regular movie, not the handheld, real-time Blair Witch style. And yet there is something disappointing about seeing a movie shot on video. Tickets cost the same price as movies with big budgets and sweeping cinematography, and somehow that feels wrong. The halo of "sharpening" around the edges of the people on-screen is a constant reminder that somewhere, someone was cutting corners. Boyle could have used High Definition cameras and made the same movie look much better I'm not sure I understand what the guy is saying here...when he says "...there is something disappointing about seeing a movie shot on video," what is this opposed to?

Video transferred onto film opposed to being shot on film originally video looks alot different than film and isn't as high resolution

I saw it when I was in San Diego. My thoughts:
I paid $9.50 to see it. Dang.
Wasn't as scary as I thought it would be.
Very good cinematography (I love that word now!)
Nice that it WASN'T American
Pretty dang good for an indie flick
I might see it again for the alternate ending in August
