So Dre wrote a review of it.

For a publication he hasn't deigned to write for in ages.

Great, honest review.  One that most Switchfoot fanboys will probably whine and cry about and mess their diapers over.

yeah, i agree with that review as well. Especially the parts about songwriting and the knocks on "golden" and "we are one tonight." Aaron, if i recall correctly, didn't you say golden was one of your favorite tracks off the album at cmc? I hope you were kidding....

Good review, but what's with the bad banner art? Most of the group's faces are cut off or covered up (you can't even see the 5th guy!), and the title says "Nothing in Sound."

yeah, perhaps...i think that you'll find there are some worthwhile tracks on this album. They could have done better, but if you listen to each song as a separate entity...most are quite good. The problem is, we know what kind of lyrics jon has written in the past and the type of creativity they've exhibited and so we expect more. I hope this is just their mainstream follow up and they really dig deeper on their next effort. I enjoy this album, but i also realized that it probably could have been better.

I listened to it again at a store today.  I still cannot bring myself to buy this full price.  Just not good enough

I was busy with Katrina when the album released, so someone summarize for me.

Speaking as someone who would probably pay full price for NWtbH & LoC, a little extra for LtB, and would buy TBL on sale... how much do I want to pay for NiS?

it's like God himself is coming home to say:
"I, I can do anything, if you want me here.
and I can fix anything, if you'll let me near.
where are those secrets now (that you're just scared to tell)?
I'll whisper them all aloud so you can hear yourself."

the album is growing on me, there are some stellar tracks on this cd like "the blues" "The shadow proves..." and "Happy is a yuppie word". I've never liked ALL of any switchfoot cd. I'd say this is more solid throughout than the beautiful letdown...but the highs might not be as high. But it's hard to tell so far.

i'd pay up to but not exceeding $12 in retrospect. $12 is what i paid. So i'm happy.

Probably the same sale price that you'd but TBL for, based on your rankings of their earlier albums.

Alright, it's taken me awhile to come to the conclusion, but I can now safely say that Nothing Is Sound is my favorite Switchfoot album. Hands down.

Can I get an amen from the congregation?

Admittedly, some of the themes are growing a bit tiresome. But I think it still stands as their best written, best sounding, best produced overall project. Whatever slowdown/backlash in sales they are experiencing is not based upon actual quality.

No amen here.

The album is too inconsistent and some of the songs could have been left off and replaced by better songs.

I liked it the first time or two I played it, but after another couple of plays the whole thing just became very boring.

Never been a huge Switchfoot fan, but they've done better. (Not to mention the whole Sony rootkit DRM thing)

I was at a resteraunt. I ordered a chicken sandwich, but I don't think the waitress understood me. Cuz she said "how would you like your eggs?". So I tried to answer her anyhow, I said incubated, and then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked, and then cut up, and then put on a grill, and then put on to a bun. Damn, it's gonna take a while! I don't have time - scrambled! -- Mitch Hedberg

The cd does not flow well.  Stars is extremely boring and uninspiring.  Happy Is A Yuppie Word, we could do with out.  To me, there were only a couple of really good songs on the cd with the best being Easier Than Love.

Frankly, I think "Happy Is A Yuppie Word" is one of their best all-around songs. Evah.

And "Stars" has some awesome riffing.

Methinks these comment are in regards to today's calendar date, something Mike Janke is known for.
