I'll go ahead and post mine now since I tend to wake up late on Thursdays.
Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway is an amazing step forward compared to her last record. Nothing is perfect, but with the growth, one can't help but be impressed. 4 stars

Nine Inch Nails gets 3 stars. There are some interesting musical moments, but it's just a retread of his glory days back in '94. Also, a 40 year old shouldn't get away with opening his thesaurus to "bleed" and "decay" without being dinged a little. If the music was profoundly innovative, I could overlook such things. As it is, it's only mildly enjoyable. btw, even better than AMG's review: Tiny Mix Tapes. |

I've been wrestling with what to give Aimee Mann's record. To these ears, it's at least a B+ album, but, the more I think about it, the more I feel like it should be bumped up to an A-. So I'm going with 5 stars, albeit barely.

I'm going with 2 stars on Zilch. After hearing the band members on so many other songs I liked, I figured they'd have at least a few songs I'd like, but they don't. I was really disappointed in this one. The interludes are very irritating too.

Wow, you guys never cease to surprise me.
I'm going to give Joy Williams 3 stars. 3 1/2, really, because I do respect her taking a more active role in the creative process, but at this point I've heard so many supposedly "edgier" makeovers of teen pop artists that the idea is really losing its luster. Ironically, when I first listening to this album I compared it to Kelly Clarkson's recent makeover, which worldofcm ended up evaluating this round. The music on some of the tracks is interesting, but surprisingly few of the songs are really taking hold with me. I like the Genesis/Eden theme that surfaces in a few songs, I think "Beautiful Redemption" has more of an innovative approach than the typical modern pop song, and I'll admit to being a sucker for "I'm in Love with You". But most of the album, for me, is listenable but not terribly interesting.
