I have some friends that need to get some more variety in their music. My friend Rokran(the name you know him by) is having trouble finding some good new music. So, I decide to try to introduce him to some new stuff that I've been into lately. He hasn't latched on to Radiohead yet, though I think he needs to hear more the the first two minutes of "Paranoid Android" to make a good judgement. U2 doesn't seem to be doing it for him, and the only Jars of Clay song he seems to like much is "Flood" and the "Smells Like Teen Spirit"/"Rudolph" bootleg. Oh well, I did try. The "real" albums that he has are LP, Hybrid Theory, LP Meteora, 12 Stones s/t, and All American Rejects s/t. Based on this, what more should he check out? I suggested The Juliana Theory.

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:
Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.
Chuck Norris can divide by zero.
Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

Ok, Rokran is an easy enough case, but some of my other friends aren't. How do you get anti-rock music people to be more open minded? I can get into there music(old time singers, classical), but how do I get them to get into some of mine? One person in particular thinks its rebelliuos, and not God honoring. He says you can't seperate "the rebelliuos sound of rock" from the lyrics, and that the emotional impact rock music has on you is always negative, no matter what the subject of the words is. I know I sound like I am trying to force my likes on others, but I believe that more variety is good for everyone. I like exchanging thoughts about all kinds of music, and would love to be able to do it with my friends.

I find it helpful to simply discuss music with people and share how certain songs have impacted you. The "all rock is evil" view is totally unbiblical, so maybe you can find some good verses to use in the conversation...

Their main anti-rock proof statement seems to be something like "Just listen to it! Its clearly dissonant and evil!" You have any good verses? Because I can't think of any.

I'm glad your steering this topic towards the anti-rock person instead of me... lol. Actually, I've been thinking of posting my own help-me-find-something-i-like thread. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Yes, I don't like U2 and Radiohead (what I've heard of them. I'm certain I don't like U2 but should probably listen to more Radiohead). Other CD's in my blossoming collection: The Young and the Hopeless, Good Charlotte and Relient K's latest CD's, so maybe some other good punk bands.

Try Switchfoot.
Actually, Amber is the person to ask here. She's much more knowledgeable about this genre than I am.

woo. i was mentioned. hm...if you're looking for Good Charlotte & Relient K-esque punk...aka Pop Punk, try New Found Glory (their self titled is best). Another few good bands kinda like them but more "mature": The Starting Line (buy Say it Like You Mean It) and Count the Stars (Never Be Taken Alive). Another really great CD similar to this genre: Deja Entendu by Brand New. um, if i think of more i'll tell you. oh, maybe try Anberlin's Blueprints for the Black Market too.

BTW, the reason I steered it more is because you are less of a problem case. Its the others that are more closed minded....

A couple of REM albums have a grungy sound that might be worth a try: Monster and New Adventures in Hi-Fi. The former deals with some frank sexual matters, though, and has some strong language, but it's first-rate.

38th Parallel sounds like something I might like. They seem to be very comparable to Linkin Park, so they can't be all bad! I'll check 'em out.

Has it been a month? Hmmm... and I don't remember you telling me much about them. It was mostly "Harenil" (why hasn't he been posting, btw?). He said, like the guy said in the review, that the production was bad. So, I kind of wrote them off. But after reading the whole review, I think I should at least try them out!
