I'm in a big hurry, as I'm getting ready to leave for New Orleans, so let me pop in just to say that I give the SF59 album 4 stars; I'll explain my rating later.
And, for the next round, I'm going to review Joe Henry-- A Murder of Crows.

I'm going to be extremely busy tomorrow, so i'm not sure I'm going to have enough time to even remember to come do this.
Buddy Greene has always been a favorite of mine - as he mixes his folks, blues, country, and southern gospel all in very unique ways. Easily one of the best album of the year as I listen to it more and more and more, despite my first leanings. 5 stars.

4 stars for Portishead. It's hard to tell on albums like this that are out of my genre if it's actually fresh and creative or if it's just that I don't know what I'm talking about. This one seems pretty different, but a bit lethargic at times, and I like it overall, but it's not a favorite.

oh hey, I can't believe I missed out on this. it isn't too late for my 4 stars from everyone is it? I mean, you all know what my guess is going to be. I'd probably have assumed that even if you didn't post, but yeah, in the future you'll probably want to be a bit more prompt. While I'm at it, I might as well weigh in on Stand Up. I think a better title might be Shut Up, because Dave's gravelly voice is finding all kinds of new ways to annoy me on this record. The intrumentals only have occasional bright spots, a far cry from what the band used to be capable of, even if the music does often sound like a return to classic DMB on the surface. It's all window dressing and most of the songs just don't seem to go anywhere. And the lyrics? Dear God, it sounds like Dave has finally gone and lost all pretensions of writing songs that aren't about sex. I think he's invented sex worship with some of these songs, which is distasteful not so much for moral reasons as the fact that it's just plain embarassing. The production doesn't work for the DMB, the band wanders about a lot more on these relatively short tracks than they used to on their longer jams (ironically enough), and there's not even a single song on here that I can fall in love with. I'd love to give Stand Up a high rating, but I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that. 2 stars.

Half-handed Cloud...
this is a really cool album stylistically, there's just a whole lot going on with it. The problem is that it's really brief, somewhat disorganized, and quite random. Chaos theorists would enjoy the arrangements a lot. musically, i'd be inclined to throw it 4 stars, but the odd tones and emotions of the vocals knock it down to a 3.5 for me, hence the final score is in the 3 STAR range...
3 stars...

As much as I'd like to give it 1 star just to mess with your scores, it's a B as far as I'm concerned, but a pretty low B. 4 stars.

So in hindsight, this cd was a poorly thought out idea. Instead of a lot of good remixes with one or two bad ones, we get mostly awful remixes with two or three decent ones. Why did we need two remixes each of Do Not, Gather In, and Life is Short? And at least one of each is terrible, Do Not get butchered by the Liquid Beats guy who compulsivly feels the need to insert his own name into his remixes in a very annoying fashion. I give the album 2 stars, because there are a few good remixes.

Josh already posted his rating before you guessed... Josh posted early, so I'm not going disqualify someone else's guess for it. In the future, guys, make sure to post your ratings after midnight Pacific time (unless you know you'll be busy Thursday and need to do so early), and for the rest of us, let's try to be better about getting our guesses in by midday Wednesday.
