Amazing debut album... Very accomplished for such young musicians.
Truly a humbling album.
(bloop and David should be getting copies in the mail soon)
Peace out, Andree

I didn't like it as much as Andree, but these guys really know how to play. Certainly an above-average debut.

I got a CD from Andree labelled "Cool Hand Luke - Wake Up, O Sleeper". I'm thoroughly confused, though, because it's a mix CD...unless Cool Hand Luke is the best identical cover band of all time. It has "Yellow" by Coldplay and "There There" by Radiohead on it. It also has "Heaven" by Live (I think that's the name of the song, and some others...I think one from K-max.
He also sent me Steven Delopolous, and I really like that one. It debuts on my list at #3, above even Webb and well above Switchfoot, which was pushed down to #10.

Oh, Andree... you speak better English than I do, and yet you have great struggles when it comes to labelling CDs, don't you? =)
And, for what its worth, I have Webb and Switchfoot both ranked about Delopoulos, though that's just my "favorites" list; when it comes to the BEST, Delopoulos would certainly beat out Switchfoot.

So, I take it, I should go get the Derek Webb cd right now?

So, I take it, I should go get the Derek Webb cd right now? Definitely. So far, it's the year's most powerful record, and few albums from last year can stand up to it, either (Wilco, Joseph Arthur, Beck, and Bowie are the only ones I can think of right now...).

I personally think these 6 albums are better as they musically have more going on (ok, except maybe the two member White Stripes):
1) Radiohead - Hail to the Thief 2) Spiritualized - Amazing Grace 3) Steven Delopolous - Me Died Blue 4) Blur - Think Tank 5) The White Stripes - Elephant 6) The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium
but Webb is still hanging on to #7 on my list and he's unlikely to drop out of the top 10 by year's end, which is very impressive. For albums with lyrics that are pretty easy to understand and very powerful, Josh is probably right. If you like that kind of thing as Josh does and I do for the most part, then there's no doubting that you should pick it up.
On a side note, Spiritualized's album isn't out yet, so it's #2 based only on a pre-release leak that may or may not be exactly the same as the finished product. It's incredible. If you haven't checked out a Spiritualized record, then you should try it sometime.

Actually, I generally HATE lyrics that are easy to understand. I make an exception with Webb, though; there's an uncommon power in his simplicity that's hard for me to explain.

OK...sorry I misrepresented you Josh (I should have remembered that U2 is your #1 band after all). It's all good, though, as I don't see anything wrong with liking simplicity in lyrics. It's a different and equal style, in my mind, with being positively byzantine. I like more interpretive lyrics more as well, but there are exceptions and Webb's album is definitely one of them.
Webb is a must-buy. If you have to reverse-mortgage the house, do it.

Saw them live about a year ago before they hit it big, really dug their indie stuff. The new album's pretty good, but not one of my recent favorites.
