The New Yorker has posted a terrific, in-depth look at the writings of Roal Dahl... as well as the author's many enemies.

I really do believe he was one of the best children's writers of all time. He had such a great imagination. Anywho, cool article. I very much enjoyed it.

it's like God himself is coming home to say: "I, I can do anything, if you want me here. and I can fix anything, if you'll let me near. where are those secrets now (that you're just scared to tell)? I'll whisper them all aloud so you can hear yourself."

I don't think I ever heard of him, and I can't remember if I read any of his books when I was a kid in the 1960s. What are his five most famous books?

I'll give you the top two: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory James and the Giant Peach We could probably argue quite a bit beyond there about who really belongs in the top 5. Make sure to get the book of JatGP, the movie doesn't do it justice.

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception. rms

Indeed, Vlad!; that's one of the things that always troubled me a bit about Matilda.

I love Roald Dahl; I think I read all his books when I was a kid/early teenager.

Boy was pure genius... one of my alltime favorite children's books. Yes! I especially love the part where he puts the bird droppings in his brother in-law's pipe. Laughs galore...

I read Matilda when I was eight. I've not read a book of his since then. As I recall, I didn't particularly enjoy or dislike Matilda. It was one of those rare books that I was pretty much "meh" on.
