I love the 'Far Side' by Gary Larson.
I think Larson tells a lot about the human condition and our foibles with his humor, and he is by far my favorite comic strip.
As most of you know by now, I am clueless about what is great art and what isn't.
I admit it.
Is the 'Far Side' considered 'great art' in its' genre?

In my book, "The Far Side" is great humor and great pop art. It was aptly named, considering the endless silliness and non-sequitors it seemed to serve up daily. My favorite (and I'm sure this could change) is the bear with a Target on its chest with the caption "Bummer of a birthmark, Hal."

For comics, it seems to be in a small genre of comics that were hilarious and brilliant, the author knew it, and decided to retire it before it got driven into the ground. Calvin and Hobbes, Bloom County (on a technicality, since it's been reborn twice), and The Far Side are the only ones in that small category, IMO.

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception.
