Worship artist and guitarist extraordinaire Lincoln Brewster took the music of Leonard Cohen's classic "Hallelujah" and wrote new lyrics for it.  He made it into a praise song.

My heart nearly stopped.  It's one of the most beautiful expressions of worship I've heard.

(Normally, I would've detested this type sacrilege, but in this case it works marvelously.)

NICE.  Thanks for that, Andree.  I really like his music.  I'll be sure to check out his new live album.

I'm glad he's finally doing a live album.  I have felt that his studio albums never do justice to his abilities on the guitar.

"Hallelujah"-- the Jeff Buckley version, anyway-- is one of my all-time favorite songs.

I am profoundly skeptical about all of this.

Well, his obscure self-titled debut on Vertical Music does do him justice.   It don't even sound like a worship album, but a straight-up rock 'n' roll stunner.

His other two I'm not too big on.

The live one is tons of fun.  GREAT guitarwork, as always.

Did he seriously call it "Another Hallelujah" because that seems to me to be a tad cheesy.

I love the Jeff Buckley version but the Over the Rhine versions are my favorite. and I, too, am skeptical about changing the words to make it more praise-and-worship-y.

i've never heard the Over the Rhine version, but i'd love to.

praise & worship-ized though?

eh, i'm truly skeptical too. i mean, i love the song, especially Buckley's version. once i thought to myself that it would be funny to try and turn it into a worship song. note that i said: funny.

i'd have to hear it, but i'm not too sure i think it is justified in existing.

I have a couple live recordings of OtR covering the song. I could try to email an mp3 to you if you like.

edit...actually, I have some personal webspace that I use for sharing a few files with a few select friends. send me a pm and I'll upload the mp3s there and let you know what the address is.

I'd like to hear that mp3 as well.

Can anyone provide lyrics to this version? I'm intrigued, but doubtful about how it will work.

My guess, based on this, is that he was probably knew the responses of people here who haven't heard the song would be pretty guarded.
