Bob Dylan tribute record

so..this should be interesting.  There are some good artists on here but im not sure I like a bunch of the interpretations of Dylan's songs.  As much as I love Anberlin, their uptempo version of Like A Rolling Stone is well, interesting

you guys should see the Smashing Pumpkins tribute record...........suckage bands..except for As Tall As Lions...best band on the cd

I know nothing much of Bob Dylan's music but I respect artists that don't copy a song note for note and actually change the arrangements when they cover a song.
If I was a Dylan fan and bought the CD and found many of the covers were exact copies of the originals I wouldn't like it.
So.....I think changing the songs around is a good thong, and it may just take a while to get used to them, as opposed to the covers not being well done.

I hear you, Josh.  I've never been more convinced I'm going to absolutely hate one of these messes by thirty second clips than I am for this one.

(btw, I realize the clips are longer than that, but 30 seconds is about all I could stomach)

Bloop, you should be able to appreciate the track by As Tall As Lions.  They are a great band and do justice to Dylan's song

I like it when artists put their own spin to a song, but it should maintain its essential tone.  An artist is naturally going to at least change the vocal considerably, which is a new spin in itself (the best decision in some cases may just be keeping the music itself very similar to the original).  

Anyway, as nice as adding something of your own to a song is, one shouldn't turn "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" into something morose, or, conversely, render "Yesterday" as a pseudo-punkish barn-burner.  Make sense?

I disagree that the music should remain the same.
That would make me shudder.
To each his own though.
Actually, in the 1970s James Brown covered 'Something' as the flip side of one of his records, and he not only changed the music and  added a bridge in the middle that is complately new, he also added a verse "I've got to believe in something", when the music goes, 'dodododooodooodoooooo'.
And.....to somewhat prove my point that the original artists like it when other singers change their song around, George Harrison is in print saying that JB's version of
'Something' is his favorite version!! I read that in one of the myriad large tomes on the Beatles.
I don't know if Dylan feels the same way as Harrison, but I would think he would like originality.

They put their own spin on them while remaining true to the feel of the original.

They left Hurricane alone. I like that song ALOT! ].[ Bob Dylan is cool but I'd rather pick up his Anthology then listen to a bunch of folks do a tribute album.
