Wow... though I said in the "2005 Midterm" thread that this is shaping up to be a very good year for new music, I'm thinking next year will be even better. Just check out this list of exciting new releases that have been confirmed for early 2006 release:
Radiohead Andrew Bird Arcade Fire The Flaming Lips Woven Hand The Fiery Furnaces-- Bitter Tea Leigh Nash The Cure
CHA-ching! :headphones:

I also believe that The Shins and Sleeping At Last are both planning on 2006 releases.
Edit - and MuteMath, too.

How about we just relish music one day at a time?
All these forward-looking statements and threads are simply a waste of typing effort (and time).

I, for one, enjoy looking ahead and seeing what we have to look forward to in the future.
If you don't feel the same, you're more than welcome to not post in this thread.

This is true, but for many of those listed, the repeated track records of the names Josh has provided make that unlikely. I'd be a bit more wary with relatively newer bands like the Fiery Furnaces and The Arcade Fire. As good as their albums were, they haven't been around long enough for me to geek out yet. 2006 seems far to me, though, so I'm anticipating but I'm hardly peeing myself.

Kim Taylor (who has been/is on tour with Over the Rhine) will have a new album out in 2006, I hear. I've been enjoying her music a lot lately so I'm looking forward to it.

From Sleeping At Last: Speaking of our new album, we've been hard at work for the past two months in the studio recording it. We're nearing the end of the recording process and we're starting mixing very soon. We're pleased to announce it will be titled Keep No Score and you are the very first to hear about it. We're really proud of it and we're really excited for you all to hear it. We're not sure of a release date yet but we're hoping sometime this spring. We'll be keeping you up to date as we get closer to finalizing the details. We've been keeping a studio journal on our message board if you want to bring yourself up to date on the whole process.

Alt-country singer/songwriter Gillian Welch is currently in the studio hashing out her fourth solo set. The effort, which is as-yet-untitled, will likely be released by the end of the year, according to Welch's management. it'll be their 5th album, actually. Revival, Hell Among the Yearlings, Time (the Revelator), and Soul Journey--that's already four. and Gillian Welch is a two-person band that goes by her name. so saying "her nth solo set" doesn't make sense anyway. but yay yay yay for a new album!! :D

Harry Connick, Jr. - Harry On Broadway, Act 1He is doing the soundtrack to the two Broadway shows he's written. But he's in the cast on The Pajama Game, and he's replacing the cast for Thou Shalt Not, if I understand correctly. So it's a two-disc set with 36 new songs arranged, written, and orchestrated by HCJ. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy! The Pajama Game1. Overture 2. Racing With The Clock 3. A New Town Is A Blue Town 4. I'm Not At All In Love 5. I'll Never Be Jealous Again 6. Hey There 7. Sleep Tite 8. Her Is 9. Once A Year Day 10. Once A Year Day Playoff 11. Her Is 12. Small Talk 13. There Once Was A Man 14. Factory Music / Slow Down 15. Hey There 16. Steam Heat 17. The World Around Us 18. Hey There Reprise / If You Win You Lose 19. Think Of The Time I Save 20. Hernando's Hideaway 21. The Three Of Us 22. Seven-And-a-Half Cents 23. There Once Was A Man 24. Hernando's Jive 25. The Pajama Game Thou Shalt Not1. Oh, My Dear (Something's Gone Wrong) 2. Can't We Tell 3. Such Love 4. I Like Love More 5. My Little World 6. All Things 7. I Need To Be In Love 8. Oh! Ain't That Sweet 9. The Other Hours 10. Take Advantage 11. Take Her To The Mardi Gras

You sure it's just not a remake of the classic The Pajama Game? or did he write new songs for the old show?

Who says Jesusfreakhideout is useless??? It's GMA Week in Nashville, Tennessee and Jesusfreakhideout.com is on the spot with some exciting news. JfH met with Jars of Clay yesterday to discuss their brand new record Good Monsters. The self-produced record will contain thirteen brand new songs with a tentative release date of September 18th from Essential Records. The guys told Jesusfreakhideout.com that the album will be their most aggressive record to date, and features a guest appearance by Leigh Nash.

i really liked their major label debut "Ghosts" even though it lacked the guitar punch that their indie release "Capture" had. i'm very interested in hearing "Keep No Score."
so you can get it early from their website eh?

Great news from the Erin McKeown newsletter: NEW ALBUM NEWS- here it is, buried in the may newsletter, but we wanted to send out a little teaser to the loyal fans. MCKEOWN has just finished recording a new album, the promised STANDARDS project. recorded live in 4 days, the album features an all star cast that will be familiar to many of you who have seen MCKEOWN play over the last year. SAM KASSIRER did his dance on the piano and wurly. TODD SICKAFOOSE brought his inimitable tone to the low end. ALLISON MILLER hit her drums with the perfect mix of humor, precision, and balls. and MCKEOWN brought it home with banjo, electric and acoustic guitars. to say this record is fun is a serious understatement. seriously. we'll have more news next month, but you can mark your calendars for a release later this year.

Just found out about the new Sleeping at Last album, as I see some of you have. Is that only going to be available at their live shows and online? Or wil it eventually be in stores? Are they even still on a label?
Here's some stuff I found out about while updating my Music Journal today:
David Crowder Band - B Collision: The Eschatology of Bluegrass Out August 27. Will probably be the new album's equivalent of Sunsets & Sushi (e.g. a remix/remake EP), except this time in a decidedly less electronic format!
Evanescence - The Open Door Out October 3. First single will be called "Call Me When You're Sober". IT'S ABOUT FRIGGIN' TIME.
He Is Legend - Suck Out the Poison Out some time in November.
Vienna Teng - Dreaming Through the Noise Out July 25. I'm really excited about this one; I hadn't checked her website in a while, and I had no idea it'd be coming so soon. She'll be having an album preview show in L.A. next week - I am so there.
Peter Bradley Adams - Gather Up He's the dude from Eastmountainsouth. Apparently this is already available online, but will be in stores August 1, or something confusing like that.
Barenaked Ladies Couldn't get a title, but their album will be out September 12.
Leigh Nash - Blue on Blue Out August 15, according to Wikipedia.
Pillar New album out October 3, not that anyone really cares.

Leigh Nash's EP is available on iTunes, I hear. it's got two songs, each with two versions. for what it's worth, I hate the one song, My Idea of Heaven, and liked the demo version of the other song, Nervous in the Light of Dawn, a lot better. *shrug*

More info on Vienna Teng's Dreaming Through the Noise Being that there are 11 tracks, I've realized that I heard every single one of them last night except for "Nothing Without You". Sorry, no sound clips yet. I'm excited for any fellow Vienna fans to finally hear some of this, so I'll let you know as soon as I find any. http://www.rounder.com/index.php?id=album.php&catalog_id=6856

Are they even still on a label? Sorry, just saw this. You can order on their website, which is actually a pretty good option, financially speaking. The CD costs $12, which includes shipping. The album is not on a label - they are currently distributing themselves, which I believe just means shows & online. Who knows what the future holds, though. Also, I am quite excited to find out that Salvador is releasing a new album on 8/29 entitled Dismiss the Mystery. If they top So Natural, it'll be something.

Kim Taylor sent out an email today and mentioned this exciting piece of news: "If you live anywhere on the planet, you'll be able to pre-order the new record I Feel Like A Fading Light starting in the month of August. There will be signatures. And photos. And printed lyrics. And candy. And pantyhose." I love Kim.

On another note. Dead Poetic has a new song on their myspace page ( www.myspace.com/deadpoetic). It sounds very different from their old stuff. Still very good though, especially with Jesse Sprinkle on the drums. It's got more of an all out rock n roll vibe to it. Album due out on halloween. I like the new song they have, too. I never thought that Dead Poetic would go rock n roll. Of course, I never thought He Is Legend would go southern rock/metal, and look at them now.

You can hear their new single on their website. So far, I'm not very impressed. Salvador is at its best when they are using real latin percussion and agressive acoustic guitar playing, and this song has neither.
