Hey, remember that time when Ryan Adams released three albums-- one of them a two-discer-- in the span of one year?
Oh, wait-- that was last year. But wait... it gets so much more insane. Apparently, Adams is going to do it again, releasing three albums-- one of them a two-discer-- before the end of 2006.
The first, a solo album, is titled Black Hole.
The second is the double album, and it's called War and Peace.
And the third, recorded with the Cardinals, is tentatively titled Star Wars.
I'm really starting to hate this guy.

When Ryan Adams is on, he makes some really good music. But with that much quantity, the quality is suffering (bad). He needs an editor willing to stand up to him and makehim pare it down.

Right; the guy releases one really good album last year, but, unfortunately, it was spread out over four discs.

I am quite excited about this. Plenty of interesting choices. The duet vocals and quartet instrumentation were all recorded simultaneously live in studio. I remember Frank Sinatra's duet albums were not, which was a bit odd for an old-school kind of guy.

Tracklisting Boulevard Of Broken Dreams (with Sting) Smile (with Barbara Streisand) Put On A Happy Face (with James Taylor) The Shadow Of Your Smile (with Juanes) Rags To Riches (with Elton John) The Very Thought Of You (with Paul McCartney) Lullaby Of Broadway (with Dixie Chicks) Cold, Cold Heart (with Tim McGraw) The Best Is Yet To Come (with Diana Krall) For Once In My Life (with Stevie Wonder) Are You Havin' Any Fun? Boulevard Of Broken Dreams (with Sting) I want to hear that just to hear Tony Bennett sing the words "what's fucked up and everything's alright".

Wrong song. This is the old jazz standard.

I just read this heads-up:
FYI. On November 6th Rhino Records will be releasing a 5 (yes five!) CD box set of Emmylou material. The RUMOR is that it will include not only her contributions to a number of soundtrack and tribute albums, as well as a variety of alternate takes of songs included on previously released records, and a couple of songs recorded within the last year that were produced by Brian Ahern, BUT ALSO some live concert material from a variety of diffferent "collaborations and ensembles" of which she has been a part.
Can we all say: "Sweet Harmony Traveling Revue?" (I only hope.... I haven't seen a track list but we know all of the SHTR shows were recorded so it seems like it should be at least a possibility....)
Arlene
the other day I was just thinking that Emmy, Buddy, Patty, Gil, and Dave need to release an official SHTR album...or something! I'm looking forward to finding out what's going to be on this boxed set!

Kim Taylor is now accepting pre-orders for her upcoming cd, I Feel Like a Fading Light. click on the link to see the track listing. I've heard almost all the songs already from recordings of live shows and have been wondering which ones will make it to the cd. I'm surprised that some of the ones she had been doing a lot didn't make it, but I'm happy to see that some of my favorites did. I'm eagerly anticipating getting my copy!

I heard her play a number of those songs at the OtR show last year, and they sounded nice-- I might have to begin my Kim Taylor education with this record.

her other album and EP aren't very representative of what she plays at shows, so it looks like this one will be a great place to start! I got an email notification from her mailing list this morning. I like her sense of humor: August 7, 2006 Well Hello! And for crying out loud! And it's about damn time! And who's idea was this anyway? I Feel Like a Fading Light The New Record Drops September 12 and we are NOW taking pre-orders at www.kim-taylor.net. What more can I say? Other than get on over there! All pre-orders are signed, numbered, blessed by the Pope and then shipped several days in advance of the street date. Plus, there may be gum in there somewhere. Like baseball cards. I dunno. I have to figure out the logistics on that one. to be continued . . . kim

Skillet's new album is debuting Octboer 3rd, and it'll be calld "Comatose." They've got 1:30 of their first single, "Rebirthing," on their MySpace page ( http://profile.myspace.com/skilletmusic). I have to say, I think it sounds great. The keyboards are back, but they have a more orchestral feel to them. Plus, Lori Peters is employing quite a bit of double bass on the new record. And, Korey is singing. A lot. She sounds great paired with John. I'm REALLY itching for this release. Also, Norma Jean's "Redeemer" is coming out in September. Heard a couple new songs, and it sounds great as well.

Yeah.. I saw her open for Jars of Clay a year or so ago.. she sounded pretty bad (she was like yelling the whole time.. I'm quite sure she got toned down in the studio, as live she was just like shouting.). I got her CD, and it was OK.. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but it wasn't bad for what it was. I'll admit I'm curious about her new CD Josh

I was at a resteraunt. I ordered a chicken sandwich, but I don't think the waitress understood me. Cuz she said "how would you like your eggs?". So I tried to answer her anyhow, I said incubated, and then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked, and then cut up, and then put on a grill, and then put on to a bun. Damn, it's gonna take a while! I don't have time - scrambled! -- Mitch Hedberg

I'm 99% sure there are no Sarah Kelly fans on here, but here is some press info. on her new album. I find it unreal that Slash is playing on it!
While I wouldn't call myself a huge fan of Sarah Kelly, she has a few songs I like. However, I thought her first album was hit-or-miss, and she's an average lyricist at best. I actually didn't find "Take Me Away" to be so bad, but there are some other songs on that album that I just could not tolerate (such as "Living Hallelujah" and "Life Is" - ironically those seem to be Sarah's favorite songs on the album.) That said, I am curious about Sarah's latest album.

Woo hoo! An acoustic live album from Maria McKee lands in November, with a new studio album out in February. Can't wait-- if you haven't ever heard of McKee, check out her album called Life is Sweet. It's one of my all-time favorite rock albums.

A few albums have been announced recently. First, Switchfoot was given an official date of 12/26 for the release of Oh! Gravity. Second, Harry Connick, Jr. is putting out a big band album in the fall called Oh My Nola. It is a collection of classic New Orleans songs and some new ones written about the city. Based on the advance press I've read, it's supposed to be a pretty emotional album.

Oh, that Connick album sounds wonderful! Thanks so much for posting that, DGP!
(And that Switchfoot album title is kinda cool, even if it does sound like a retread of similar themes, and it reminds me a tiny bit of REM.)

Believe it or not, HCJ is also putting out a completely different instrumental big band album on the same day. That album is titled Chanson Du Vieux Carre. That will make three albums in one year!
