I haven't read the purpose driven life but it seems to be the new trendy book to read at my church. (after prayer of jabez, lucado etc) Right now I am busy with buechner and o'connor, who are, in my opinion, two of the best. However I am interested if anyone on here has read it? And what your opinions are of the book? I stay far away from christian bookstores but it seems that this hasn't become the big marketing ploy that other books or ideas have become, at least from what I have seen. Opinions?

the church I was going to had a 40 Days of Purpose thing and used the book. I got a copy and intended to read it but neglected to keep at it. I thought the book was pretty good; I keep intending to pick it up again but haven't yet...

My church did the whole 40 Days of Purpose thing last year. The way my church implemented it was awesome - there was a small-group portion to it, as well as a congregational portion. The book itself was okay. Rick Warren tried a bit to hard to make it appeal to everyone - even people who knew nothing about Christianity. I had only been a Christian for a couple months at that point, so I really put a lot of effort into thinking about what the author was saying...but in the end, it just boiled down to "follow God and your life will have purpose". Some parts of it were really good, but others were kind of the same old, same old. But I think that was the idea behind the book - everyone could find something of value in it. It definitely wasn't a waste of 40 days, anyways.

The title of the book is an intruiging one, but polka_dot confirmed my suspicion that the book doesn't really go deep enough to be a life-changing read.

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception. rms

yeah, uh, i'm co-leading a small group that's using this book...
it's pure nonsense, but the other guys in the group tend to shy away from deep thinking and they love it...
i just scare them with logic and then tell them they were right all along, and then we pray and part ways...
peace . . . love . . . bdg . . .

nonsense is probably pretty harsh . . .
it's more like the reflection pool up here in DC . . .
looks real slick and pretty . . . . but if you need to cool off . . . you can't even get your knees wet . . .
