I always assumed the term meant "movie a guy can take his date to which will toy with her emotions and increase the likelihood of her putting out".

If you don’t have freedom as a principle, you can never see a reason not to make an exception. There are constantly going to be times when for one reason or another there’s some practical convenience in making an exception.

Hehe, I guess I didn't see it that way. I had three definitions:

1) Movies guys wanted to avoid like the plague when a group a friends are picking out a movie, and the girls outweigh the guys.

2) Movies where the girls make stupid decisions, hook up with guys just because they are hot, and are suprised when said guy turns out to be a total jerk....then are saved emotionally and/or physically by another hot guy. Or they both die.

And the male chick flick:

-- Guy has self-absorbed, witchy, cheating girlfriend and lousy job. He meets great girl-next-door type lady and woos her with his self-depreciating personality. Add bathroom humor and physical comedy to taste. Office Space and There's Something about Mary are two examples.

Anyway...

Being John Malkovich is a chick flick??

Telling the difference between guy flicks and chick flicks is easy:

- If a movie features a bunch of people getting killed off very quickly, it's a guy flick.
- If a movie features one person dying very slowly, it's a chick flick.

But seriously, though, I must be really in touch with my feminine side, because most of the time, I'd sooner go see the latest "chick flick" than the latest action movie or whatever. Many of my favorite films are romantic comedies or dramas centered around romance, family, stuff like that. I like sci-fi and stuff like Lord of the Rings, too, but for the most part I'd rather laugh or cry or have something meaty to think about instead of just getting an adrenaline rush.
