i got the new cd by Rosie Thomas. i had first noticed her on Damien Jurado's album "Where Shall You Take Me?" in their great duet "Window." out of all of you here, i'm guessing the ones who would be most interested in hearing this would be, (in order of perceived interest)

Josh
Murlough
Bethany
Bloop

i'm not sure how many more would want to give a quiet, intimate disc like this a spin. but it is highly rewarding.

her singular gift is her ability to sing words that would come off as trite from most other artists, yet she makes them heartfelt and moving.

her voice is lilting and almost bird-like at times. and at other times it is hushed and subdued.

stylistically she reminds me of Sandra McCracken, Sara Groves, Tori Amos and Mindy Smith. if you like those people, then you'd probably like Rosie.

tracks that i especially like:

Pretty Dress
Guess It May
Let It Be Me (duet with Ed Harcourt)
Death Came And Got Me

this is my first Rosie Thomas cd, i hope it won't be my last.

Rosie Thomas is great.  She came to my college a few years ago.  She has a beautiful voice and it is so relaxing
