TIME lists the 100 greatest English-language novels since 1923, and their list isn't all that bad, as far as such lists go. For what its worth, I have read 15 of them, and am reading through another one right now. Kinda sad for an English Lit. major, I guess...

I agree with all the ones I've read. It would have been nice to see Flannery O'Connor and Robertson Davies make the list. And I'd personally include another Graham Greene (Brighton Rock) and something Charles Williams (maybe Descent into Hell).

I've read 18.
I'd be interested to hear which ones you all have read, and whether or not you'd recommend reading them.

my little list... Animal Farm (recommended) Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret (read it when I was a pre-teen...don't really remember it.) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (recommended) The Lord of the Rings (recommended) The Sun Also Rises (read it for school, hated it, but maybe it's one of those books you just have to read even if you don't enjoy it, I dunno.)
