If you mean "cracked out and startled the bejesus of me when I was listening to the album while falling asleep," then yes.
I seriously hope that's the first thing on side two of the vinyl. Just to make you think you're playing it at the wrong speed.

Heady Fwends, The Flaming Lips. I've only listened to one side so far, but the weirdness is layered on pretty thick on this one. I think I like it.

Speaking of Jack White-related projects, Blunderbuss is pretty great.

I heard one song on All Songs Considered podcast the other day and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Newsboys -"God's Not Dead"
Have to admit that I enjoy this song. I havent't liked a Newsboys song in a long time. Perhaps it's the combo of Michael Tait and Kevin Max singing that brings back memories. Kevin tends to make most songs better when he does the guest vocals

I downloaded the album a little while back but I've been afraid to actually listen to it. Guess I should dive in.

I've been listening to Mr. Hurst's choices for "Great Records". It's a pretty good series he's doing, I think, especially after you get past those things you know Josh is going to include (not that those are bad, it's just I've heard them all already).
Sadly, my favorite headphones broke at the plug (again), so I went to Radioshack to get another one. The one they sold me didn't have screws like my last replacement, and I really don't know what I'm doing, so I'm using my semi-DIY Koss headphones. They're pretty good, too, but not exactly fashionable to wear out of the house.

Golly, what a snoozefest. I could think of a few other four letter words that aptly describe it.

It's frustrating, because it's not like he didn't have his mellow songs ten years ago ("Absolutely Zero" is one of my all time favorites), but I felt like he was more versatile and his songs expressed more wit. Now I enjoy "I'm Yours" and "Lucky" as much as the next guy (alright, gal), but I feel like he's increasingly basing his entire repertoire on attempts to recapture that sort of magic. I already went through this crap with John Mayer.

I've always thought both guys were vanilla-y and boring, so I could have told you this was going to happen...also, "I'm Yours" makes me want to stab myself in the eardrums. What a godawful syrupy POS. on-topic, jammed to most of Steely Dan's catalog on my 500-mile drive today. "Kid Charlemagne" is the JAM turned up that loud, wow.

I've always thought both guys were vanilla-y and boring, so I could have told you this was going to happen... I think both showed some creativity earlier in their career, before each figured out a quicker way to get laid. Mraz in particular could turn out some impressive, tongue-twisting lyrics... none of which were terribly serious or meaningful, but I appreciated the quirkiness of it.

Both are really talented, but also pretty vanilla to me as well. I have to admit to liking a few early singles by each, though.

I wish Donald Fagen would get back to that kind of stuff instead of what was on his last solo album

The Civil Wars. It's their new Unplugged special on Palladia. They even included a cover of Portishead's "Sour Times".

Listened to the full Newsboys album. It is nice to hear Kevin Max and Michael Tait reunited on the title track and "I Am Second", though this only further underscores the fact that we're not really listening to the Newsboys at this point. Overall, some of the material was stronger than I expected, but the album as a whole feels like another tired worship rehash, the kind of thing SonicFlood 2.0 would have come up with ten years ago. The cover choices are uninspired here - "Revelation Song" is one of my favorite worship songs of the last few years, yet they manage to render it trite with a "pump up the muscular guitars" arrangement that doesn't fit the song at all. (Do it right and this song can send shivers up my spine.) And why is the exact same recording of "Mighty to Save" on here that we already heard on Born Again? That's just plain lazy. I miss the days when the Newsboys, corny as they might have been, knew how to express themselves with a little wit. Even when they were flailing toward the end of the Peter Furler era, I still felt like he brought his own personal experiences and his unique way of phrasing things into the occasional song. Tait, while he is a much better vocalist, has made the band absolutely faceless.

love the album (releases 5/15). It's just Derri and crew doing the usual Choir stuff. Good listening

I finally gave this one a go tonight. I expected it to be the kind of thing that would need to grow on me. I didn't expect to like it so much on first listen. I can only assume further listens will reveal more depth rather than revealing I liked the songs for superficial reasons, so this one'll likely be getting some heavy rotation in the weeks to come.
