Figured I would start this thread since I usually buy alot of books.  At the beginning of every month, our library has a used book sale.  I usually can get 10-15 books for 8 bucks or less if I find alot of titles that I want.  Today I purchased:

James Patterson - Cat & Mouse
John Steinbeck - Travels With Charley: In Search of America
John Steinbeck - The Winter of Our Discontent
E.L. Doctorow - Ragtime

I've been trying to increase my reading comprehension level in Japanese, so I bought some kids' books to help out. Kids' books are nice because they contain hints (furigana) next to the kanji characters about how to pronounce them. With the help of a dictionary, I'm reading at about 1 page per 10 minutes XD.

Great choice of translation-- that's easily my favorite.

I got Captain Blood and Scaramouche the King-Maker from the library today (both by one of my favorite authors, Rafael Sabatini). I'll just have to be disciplined in finishing Shogun first.

From the library:

Don Marquis-- archyology
David Foster Wallace-- A Supposedly Fun Thing That I'll Never Do Again

The Wallace book is a collection of essays that I just HAD to read after I came across his short story "The Devil is a Busy Man" last week. For those who have never read the latter, see if you can get your hands on a copy; it's just about a page and a half long, and it's both hilarious and thought-provoking.

Chesterton's Father Brown mysteries are pretty good.

I went to the library and got a crapton of books:
Captain Blood Returns - Rafael Sabatini
The Fortunes of Casanova - Rafael Sabatini
The Stalking Horse - Rafael Sabatini
Prelude to Foundation and Forward to Foundation - Isaac Asimov
Isaac Asimov: The Complete Stories (volume 1) - Isaac Asimov

Obviously I'm a fan of Sabatini and Asimov.

I stopped by a used bookstore on a whim and found a bunch of Madeleine L'Engle books.  I spent like $22 that I didn't have, but I got eight or so books for it.   Smiley

I went to the public library today and got two books for my upcoming cross-country jaunt:
* A collection of short stories by Phillip K Dick.
* A book about grammar called Eats Shoots and Leaves, which looks to be very amusing.
