the latest release from Grandaddy has just topped my '06 music journal (i still haven't heard "Ships" or "Springtime Can Kill You" so that could change) and i figured there should be some discussion of it.
i may be unique in the respect that i think it is almost as good as their "Sophtware Slump," but i feel that many fans of indie music will find much to enjoy here. it kind of surprises me that nobody here has mentioned "Fambly Cat" yet.
as swan songs go, Grandaddy is going out in style and reminding us of the things that made them stand out. "Sumday" would have been a lousy epitaph.
i'll save you all some googling:
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:3kd5vwdea9qkhttp://pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/g/grandaddy/just-like-the-fambly-cat.shtmlmy own ranking would be closer to AllMusic than Pitchfork. Pitchfork is a bit low in their estimation of "Fambly Cat" IMO. i don't see how you could expect much more from Grandaddy than what they offer here. it is inventive, quirky and yet still quite hum-able music.
