To paraphrase Adam West in Family Guy: "I love Elvis Costello more than I love taffy. And I'm a man who enjoys his taffy."

Paste didn't review this one in their latest issue, but they DID reference it in their Top 100 Songwriters feature, claiming that it was one of his best albums ever, and even listing one of the songs as one of his all-time finest.

With Elvis Costello and Joe Henry working together, I'm not sure how this could be anything other than awesome. And when you throw in Allen Toussaint and the Imposters... well, gee!

Sounds like it's a great album. Where could I listen to a song or two? (I can't download the plugins needed to listen to the clips.) I think Joe Henry also worked with Allen Toussaint on the most excellent Hurricane Katrina benefit album Our New Orleans. The songs he worked on had a wonderful, clean sound.

One always wonders, of course. But I've been listening to about as many new releases this year as I did last year, and so far I'd say that this year is much better overall, even if there haven't been any albums released this year that blew me away and stuck with me the way that Andrew Bird and The Hold Steady and Sufjan did last year.
