On second thought.. nevermind that.

Here's another HTTP link instead. Zshare is a bit easier to download from usually.

Hasn't stopped any of us from actually buying Switchfoot's albums, either, far as I can recall. I'm certainly first in line to buy 'em when they come out.

Though I think the stupid copy protection that made Nothing Is Sound not work on anyone's computer probably cost the band a lot of potential sales.

Are you talking about if the Fork reviewed Switchfoot?  I'm not thinking they'd go so low as 3.5, but I can't envision them going 8.0 or higher for the band's music, either.

So, this album hasn't leaked anywhere yet?

I'm suprised.

*edit*
I found it on a torrent site, but there appear to be no seeders. I will keep looking.

Found the same torrent. Bummer.

Nope.. AFAIK it hasn't leaked. Pre-releases have been sent out, so I'm kinda surprised that it hasn't.

Full album is streaming now on MTV's The Leak.  They have song titles all screwed up, but, hey, I won't be picky.

Anyways, from what I've heard, i'd give the album 3 or 4 stars but not 4 1/2. I think that's a tad generous

Ok, after four listens, my favorite tracks are Dirty Second Hands, Amateur Lovers, Oh Gravity, and Yesterdays.

I probably could have done without American Dream, and Awakening isn't anything special, Burn Out Bright seems a little repetative after Faust, Midas, And Myself, since they address similar subjects.

4:12 is a weird one, I like it, but it feels like the music and lyrics don't quite match.

Let Your Love Be Strong is an alright closer.

Circles is fun, but probably the weakest lyrics on the album.

I'm a huge fan of Dirty Second Hands and Oh! Gravity. Amateur Lovers is fun in a Legend of Chin/Poparazzi sort of way, but Jon's a bit too spastic for my tastes on that one. The "P-p-p-p-professional" really gets on my nerves. "Yesterdays" is just boring, at least so far.

I probably could have done without American Dream, and Awakening isn't anything special, Burn Out Bright seems a little repetative after Faust, Midas, And Myself, since they address similar subjects.

Most of the album addresses that same old Switchfoot subject: This Is Your Life and you're Meant to Live, so I Dare You to Move. I enjoy the music, but ENOUGH ALREADY.

4:12 is a weird one, I like it, but it feels like the music and lyrics don't quite match.

I like some of the different "phases" of that song but I'm not sure if I enjoy it as a whole.

Let Your Love Be Strong is an alright closer.

Parts of it are really good. I don't like the "loose" flow of the lyrics, though. I think it's their weakest album closer since "Under the Floor".

Circles is fun, but probably the weakest lyrics on the album.

Haven't paid as much attention to the lyrics on that one, but I love the music. It's 5/8 switching to 6/8, and each individual element seems to have its own self-contained rhythm at the end.

THe only song you didn't mention is "Head Over Heels (In This Life)", which at the moment I'm rather meh about. It feels like a "You" that wants to be a "This Is Your Life" or an upbeat song, but can't quite commit to a particular mood and pace.

Dang.  I was hoping for something a little more forward-thinking, like "Dirty Second Hands".  This isn't bad, though - I can see some of the Chin fans getting back on board.

Dang.  I was hoping for something a little more forward-thinking, like "Dirty Second Hands".

I think we all were.

At the moment (and this may change as I listen more), I'd rank their albums this way:

1. The Beautiful Letdown
2. Nothing Is Sound
3. Learning to Breathe
4. Oh! Gravity
5. The Legend of Chin
6. New Way to Be Human

O!G has a real fighting chance at eclipsing LTB for the #3 spot, but I don't see it going higher than that. NIS, despite its flaws (which are mainly confined to 4 out of 12 tracks and the thematic issue that every post-LTB album shares), is pretty darn solid. And TBL is a career-defining album.

I can't comment on the album yet-- heck, I still gotta catch up with their last one-- but that CT review is pretty weak music criticism. I say that only because CT usually does much better, and I'm not sure why they gave such a high-profile assignment to a distinctly weaker critic than, say, Russ or Andree.

I thought the same thing only sentances into the review... I would have loved to hear what Russ had to say about the album.

I've listened to the stream on MTV2 a few times, and I basically agree with the consensus here: pretty good but not the Album of the Year.  Still, I liked what I heard a lot, and you bet I'm going to be trying to track this CD down on Tuesday.  I'd guess this will probably end up as either my 2nd or 3rd favorite Switchfoot CD.  It's not going to rank ahead of The Beautiful Letdown for me, although I do like this one better than Nothing is Sound.

As for individual tracks, I'd say "Dirty Second Hands" is my favorite song on the CD.  I also find "Circles", "Oh!  Gravity" and "Burn Out Bright" to be a lot of fun musically.  I haven't closely analyzed the lyrics yet, although from my initial listens, I didn't hear anything terribly embarassing.  "Faust, Midas and Myself" is definitely a grower, but if I give it time, it could become one of my favorites.  "Yesterday" and "4:12" also appear to be growers for me.  I'd probably like "Amateur Lovers" more if it didn't sound like the love child of "Poparazzi" and "Easier Than Love" to me.  Pretty much everything else I like even if it doesn't stand out that much.

If you can't make it to any Switchfoot concerts, they are allowing bootlegs of CD's to be uploaded to the site below.  Switchfoot is recording 6-7 songs live each night, and pressing 100 CD's for sale at the end of the show.  Pretty cool idea - I think somebody else did something similar recently, but I can't remember who it was.

From Jon Foreman's blog:

Quote
It's late or early and I'm back from lestats. "hot hot hot" would be the words describing the evening...Yes, it was there that I let the cat out of the bag- we're tracking a few tunes for the next projecto this week. Can't wait. ridiculous.

So, yes, Switchfoot is back in the studio.  I read they are tracking five songs - could be an album out by spring.

That might mean new stuff on the fall tour, which will make it less repetitive for me. The spring tour was so awesome that I really don't know what they could have added to it.
