Well, Newsboys worked out pretty well, and Caedmon's Call was a bit painful, but in the end I think we mostly made the right decisions on that one. So, let's see how it goes for Switchfoot!

For those who don't know, nominate as many Switchfoot songs as you like for the mix. The top vote-getters will make the cut for sure, and we'll do an elimination round or two if there's a tie at the cutoff level. We'll only keep what will fit on an 80-minute CD.

-----

TOTAL VOTES SO FAR

I Dare You to Move (4:07)

Dude, I am so missing out.  rolleyes

Myth0-X (just Jon and Jerome - does it count?)

Nope. Has to have been recorded under the name Switchfoot. Otherwise we'd have accepted Phil Joel solo stuff for the Newsboys mix, b/c Peter Furler produced some of it.

Next album hopefuls:
Awakening
Daylight to Break
Walk Alone

Unless there's a public outcry that says otherwise, I'm only considering stuff that has already been released, since I'd rather consider the new songs in the context of their album when it releases, and just let this mix be the best up until that point.

It's not that good of a track...I get the idea that they only played it to flesh out the "worship sequence" they used to play better. I'm glad that's gone...I'd be pretty sick of "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" by now if they kept playing it. Both songs are rarities most fans haven't heard now though - with HoW being considerably harder to find.

...I have a live cut of "Underwater" from the same day though. If they weren't stuck on one long real audio file, I'd pub it.

Well, "Walk Alone" was on the demos last time around...and "Daylight to Break" was released to their new mailing list. They don't exactly have the votes to make it, but I don't see why we should purposely exclude them either.

I vaguely remember "I Could Sing" getting tacked onto "Learning to Breathe" during a set when they opened for the Supertones in 2001. But I don't remember "Here I Am to Worship". No matter, it doesn't sound like it'd have been that interesting. (I went to that particular show more for Switchfoot and Relient K than for the Supertones, by the way.)

Well, "Walk Alone" was on the demos last time around...and "Daylight to Break" was released to their new mailing list. They don't exactly have the votes to make it, but I don't see why we should purposely exclude them either.

My issue is that I don't really want brand new songs that we haven't all had time to fully digest possibly edging out other songs that would more likely belong on a best-of-so-far compilation. But if a second person really wants to vote for any of those, I guess I could consider it. I guess it just seems premature to me.

Hey, could we have these done in a sub-forum too? I have a feeling this could end up being clutter after a while too.

OK, initial voting appears to have died down, so it's time for elimination. This time around, everything that got six or more votes adds up to 82 minutes and change, so we only need to cut one song. Here are the five songs that are up for the chopping block:

Twenty-Four (4:52) +++
On Fire (4:39) +
More than Fine (4:15)
Let That Be Enough (2:39)
Lonely Nation (3:45) ----

Everybody name your top two (that you'd most like to keep) and your bottom two (that you'd most like to ditch) from this list. In 24 hours, I'll tally points and see who comes out lowest. That song gets dumped. If it's "Let That Be Enough" that gets dumped, we might still be a few seconds over 80 minutes, but I can probably fix that with some creative removal of silence from other tracks.

My picks:

Keep "Twenty-Four" and "Lonely Nation".

Kill "On Fire" and "Let That Be Enough".

I'd like to vote off On Fire. If I had to vote one up, it would probably be More Than Fine.

APologies for leaving this game hanging for a few days - lack of reply notifications and all that.

Voting for the first elimination round was supposed to end 24 hours after it started, but either way (whether I count Blue Third & ewok's votes or not), "Lonely Nation" comes out on the bottom. I think that's regreattable, but goodbye, "Lonely Nation".

I'll make an attempt to organize the remaining tracks later today or tomorrow.

Thinking ahead to the next version... would people rather do Jars or Sixpence? Or someone else?

Also, which version of "I Dare You to Move" do folks prefer? I prefer the Learning to Breathe version.
