June 30, 2003. There was a messageboard set up on free board host Proboards. User dissatisfaction was growing, since Proboards depended mostly on advertising revenue for its livelihood, and they were waging war on the popup blockers and javascript filters that users were increasingly resorting too. Although the website known as The Rebel Base had started to wane in the eyes of its founders, it still had enough of a following that its community, known as "the phorum", had over 50 members and was growing strong.
But on June 30th, while sometime reviewer and occasional site mechanic Vlad! The Mighty Armored Assault Duck was on a business trip to Chattanooga, Josh unveiled the new site, running on the
ultra-fancy Invision Power Board 1.3 software on it's own domain! Yes, this day in history three years ago,
http://www.thephorum.net was inaugurated.
