Sixpence is done (and what a surprising mix of songs that turned out to be!), so the only one we have left to do now is Jars. We'll start the voting now and let it run until I get back from my vacation in two weeks (I leave this Friday). I figure that'll give us all a chance to digest Good Monsters.

This'll be the last one in the series for now. If there's interest in doing any other artists (particularly of the non-CCM variety, since bloop and Josh are probably feeling a bit left out), let me know and we'll give 'em a go at some point after my vacation.

You know the rules by now. Nominate as many songs as you want that you think are worthy. When I get back from my trip, we'll take the songs with the most votes, and at the threshold where we get close to running over 80 minutes, we'll do an elimination round for the borderline ones.

Jars has a slightly bigger discography than some of the other artists we've done, so something tells me this'll be one heck of a battle.

Yikes.. this is gonna be mega-hard. I really like a lot of Jars stuff, so narrowing down is not going to be fun.

I was at a resteraunt. I ordered a chicken sandwich, but I don't think the waitress understood me. Cuz she said "how would you like your eggs?". So I tried to answer her anyhow, I said incubated, and then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked, and then cut up, and then put on a grill, and then put on to a bun. Damn, it's gonna take a while! I don't have time - scrambled! -- Mitch Hedberg

Since we're all still digesting Good Monsters, if anyone does change anything on their list later, please note the date it was changed, what you added, and what you dropped, just so it doesn't screw up the running tally. Thanks.

GM (would love a little more time to choose):

I likely won't finalize the list until I get back from my trip, so take the rest of July to make up your mind. I honestly expected that this would be the best of Jars preceding Good Monsters, since I didn't know the album would leak so soon, but since it has and several of us have heard it, I figured it wouldn't hurt to make those songs eligible. Still, since a number of the votes haven't heard it, it's doubtful that any of those songs will survive in the end.

Anyway, if you change your mind on GM, or songs from any other album, for that matter, just reply to note what you removed and/or added. I actually went in and modified my list yesterday, removing a number of songs that, while I enjoyed them a great deal, I didn't want them to beat out true classics like "Worlds Apart".

Interestingly, you were the first person not to vote for "Lesser Things". Not that this is a problem, but I was quite surprised to see it out in the lead on its own for so long. I love the song, but had no idea so many others considered it to be a standout.

I like the song enough to vote for it, but it's not like it's in any trouble if I don't.

I like the song enough to vote for it, but it's not like it's in any trouble if I don't.

I do that sometimes with songs that I enjoy, but I feel that I need to concentrate my efforts on others that aren't likely to get as much attention.

I honestly expected something from the first album to be in the lead for most of the game - I forgot that this is The Phorum and not CMCentral.

I'd be interesting to see how this game would go over at Jarchives, though I'd probably have to wait for Good Monsters to actually release before trying it.

Someone would probably vote for The Chair, prompting me to go off on a rant about how much I hate that song.

I'll play. I love Jars.

from JoC:
Liquid
Flood
Worlds Apart

from Much Afraid:
Fade to Grey
Crazy Times
Frail
Truce

from If I Left the Zoo:
Goodbye, Goodnight
Sad Clown

The Eleventh Hour:

Who We Are Instead:
Amazing Grace
Trouble Is
Faith Enough
My Heavenly

Redemption Songs:
God Will Left Up Your Head
I'll Fly Away

EDIT: and if you're looking for another band to play along with, I suggest Pearl Jam, since you expressed an interest in exploring their back catalog in your review for their self-titled. I know the mid/upper 20-somethings would love to play on this one (if there's enough folks who paid attention between Vitology and this current album, anyway). Do we dare open the U2 catalog to a virtual best-of?

Feel free to do that one while I'm gone. My favorites from the self-titled are "Worldwide Suicide", "Severed Hand", "Gone", "Come Back", and "Inside Job". And while I know any real Pearl Jam fans will crucify me for this, I'll throw in a vote for "Last Kiss" as well. Someone who has all the Pearl Jam albums and/or mp3's would have to make the final mix and upload it, of course. Or, at the very least, pass the songs my way and I'll take care of the editing.

Do we dare open the U2 catalog to a virtual best-of?

It would need to be at least a 2-disc set!

Well, there have been no new votes since I last checked, so I guess that settles it. This time around, everything down to eight votes adds up to roughly 85 minutes, so we need to kill either "Worlds Apart" or "I'll Fly Away". Everyone cast your vote for which one of those two songs you'd prefer to keep.

I choose "Worlds Apart".

OK, I propose the following tracklisting:

1) Like a Child
2) Collide
3) Fade to Grey
4) Flood
5) Trouble Is
6) Frail
7) Unforgetful You
8) Revolution
9) Tea and Sympathy
10) Sad Clown
11) God Will Lift Up Your Head
12) Amazing Grace
13) Liquid
14) Lesser Things
15) Silence
16) Worlds Apart
17) Jealous Kind
18) Hymn

FYI, the count per album is:

Jars of Clay: 4
Much Afraid: 4
If I Left the Zoo: 3
The Eleventh Hour: 2
Furthermore: 0 (unless we use its version of "Frail")
Who We Are Instead: 4
Redemption Songs: 1
Good Monsters: 0 (that's not surrpising, as not everyone's heard it yet)

WHat do folks think regarding the version of "Frail" to use? Frail demo, Much Afraid, or Furthermore?

There should be at least one or two songs from Good Monsters :P

As for Frail.. I like them both, but I'll go with Much Afraid.

Maybe wait until a few months after it's officially released, and we can do this again and see if it turns out any different.

OK, I finally did the track editing today. The Jars mix is uploading now, for all who would like to hear it. Should be done in an hour or so.

Feel free to start that one if you like. I can still make the actual mix when the game's over.
