Rented this one the other night, and I thought it was a ho-hum CIA thriller type movie.
On the one hand, the film claims to be full of twists and turns, and it delivers. But the thing is... none of the twists really surprised me; I saw many of them coming a mile away. Still, a few scenes keep you guessing, and the ending pans out in a rather clever way, even if the final result is predictable.
On the up side, Al Pacino is beocming a favorite actor of mine. He's not as subtle and nuanced as he was in Insomnia (or even Simone), but he's still a lot of fun to watch.
In the end, the movie is mildly entertaining, but probably not worth the time or money. There are just too many little missteps that add up to a merely so-so movie. A love scene is filmed with all the romance of a Spam commercial. Some of the technology used in the movie will make pholks like Vlad! laugh out loud. and the story isn't really anything too original.
So I'd say pass this one.

Very well-put. I thought this movie looked pretty good, though I was influenced by Colin Farrell and Al Pacino (Pacino especially; I agree with Josh about his acting ability) and their appearance in the movie. I do hate it when a movie depends on suspense and plot twists for its impact but it makes it slightly less than blindingly obvious what those twists are going to be. Sometime I'd like to see it, but since there are much better movies that I'm hoping to see sometime, I might wait until it gets released on TV...and if it doesn't, I won't have missed much.

Anything that has Colin Farrell in it can't be too bad...

...unless you want clear proof that Colin Farell's presence doesn't make it a good movie.

Maybe just like matter and antimatter annihilate one another, Affleck or Garner or someone eliminates the "Farrell effect" in movies...

Jennifer Garner was the only good thing about that movie, but even she seemed a bit ho-hum when compared to her work on "Alias."

So I'd say pass this one. I felt the exact same way about the movie as Josh. I strongly dislike over-hyped films. It's not cool to make po' consumers believe a movie is good like that. Next........ latinchic [_[

I didn't really feel that it was over-hyped (though I don't watch TV, so maybe it was pumped there). Not that it wasn't hyped at all, but compared to, say, T3 (gag), The Recruit wasn't really all that bad.
Not to say that it's any better of a movie as a result...
Oh, and has anyone caught the trailer? I mentioned this in a trailer review a LONG time ago (in movie years) on the old forums, but the trailer seemed to give away pretty much the entire plot of the movie. I hate it when they do that
