I'm on a duck!

I have just returned from the first session of my Religious Ethics class. The teacher is trained as a philosopher, and I can tell that she (as well as most of the students) subscribe to many relativistic and postmodern notions and generally follow the schools of thought that I dislike the most. I'm initially tempted to drop the class, but I decided to (at least for now...) stick with it and try to defend a Christian (though not fundamentalist) vierwpoint. Please pray that I will manage to do this without making myself or my beliefs look foolish.

Thanks.

ooooh.... the infamous religions class taught at a secular school.  There's one of those everywhere.  The one at my school is actually taught by a Christian, which is cool, except that he can't voice his opinions on it.  What sucks is that when a class like that is taught by an atheist, they can voice whatever opinions they want -- "people who are religious don't belong in an institute of higher learning" is basically the drift you get from most of them.

You'll get a lot of flack for your beliefs, especially if you are outspoken, but I would try to stick it out if I were you.  A lot of university students haven't really got the faintest clue what Christians truly believe...you might change someone's life, you never know.  And you're a pretty good debater, Vlad.

You're in my prayers.

Thanks. I hope I do open someone's eyes, if only to show them that believeing in Christianity doesn't have to be intellectual suicide.

Today in class the teacher said that tolerance does not necessarily mean the same thing as relativism, and that someone who believes his or her way is the only right way can still accept others. This is an acceptable statment to me, and something that frankly surprised me coming from her, given my initial impression of her. Coincidence? Maybe, but I think not entirely. Thanks for praying, guys, and I'd appreciate it if you remembered me now and then in your future prayers  Smiley

mmm, yes, classes like that are difficult for me as well. hard to battle a phd carrying relativist with my puny "i-know-what-eschatology-means" non-graduated self! so i can indeed relate.

that's awesome for you that she said this, i'm glad.

thank you for your example of humbleness by sticking with this class and remaining open to learning something through it. good for you!
