So, I'm bored, and a little nervous about a big interview I have tomorrow (I really want this job, so wish me luck and send a prayer my way).  Here's my vinyl collection:

The Beatles - 1967-1970 (greatest hits collection - blue cover 2 discs)
Mozart - Don Giovanni (Orchester Des Nationaltheaters Prag 4 discs)
Peter Paul and Mary - s/t
Peter Paul and Mary - ...Moving
The World of Vivaldi (5 discs)
Verdi - Requiem Mass (2 discs)
Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
Peter Gabriel - So
Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive!
Van Halen - 1984
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!
Pink Floyd - The Wall (2 discs)
AC/DC - Back In Black
Walt Disney's The Jungle Book soundtrack
Some Catholic Mass (21st Sunday After Pentecost...something like that)
U2 - Pride (single)
Yoko Ono - Season of Glass
Billy Joel - Turnstiles
Grease soundtrack (2 discs)
John Denver - Back Home Again
Waltzes for Dancing
Bill Cosby - Bill Cosby is a Funny Guy...Right!
Handel - Messiah (Philadelphia Orchestra with Mormon Tabernacle Choir 2 discs)
INXS - Kick
the Ramones - Road to Ruin
Tina Turner - Private Dancer
Ragtime Fun (Reader's Digest 4 disc compilation)
Kenny Rogers - The Gambler
Led Zeppelin - IV (terrible scratches...I have the sleeve hanging on my wall with the disc)
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA (in Born to Run sleeve for some reason)

The Best Thing:  I got most of them very inexpensively at a local thrift store ($0.95 - $4.95).  Only the Floyd discs and Zeppelin are really scratched.

Do you guys own records?

Oh, and just for fun, here's the latest picture of my son:

I hope your interview goes well (or went well, whatever the case may be)

...and your son is the cutest ever.

As for records, I personally don't own any, but my parents own enough for 3 families...

they used to run a disco back in the 70s (scary thought), and they had boxes and boxes of disco records.  They got rid of most of them...my dad actually doesn't like disco music, so we only have one box left in the basement.  As for real music, there's a lot of Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Styx, Beatles, AC/DC, Billy Joel, the Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and a bunch of ancient hard rock albums by unrecognizable artists my dad liked in high school.

i'm actually looking into starting to collect vinyl...but, it probably won't be the big black old ones. the only thing in my vinyl collection so far is a 7" split between Thursday & Thrice. it's clear & i have a habit of taking it out & looking at it a lot.

I have no vinyl, but I am curious about them.  Do they sound OK?  Are they cheaper than CDs?  Why buy vinyl?

Fun facts about Chuck Norris:

Newton's Third Law is wrong: Although it states that for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, there is no force equal in reaction to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

BTW, your son gives the TRu's son some competition in cuteness... B)...that's a tough one to call...

Hope the interview went well...

I think my son is quite a bit older than TRu's as he's 18 months old.  It does have its negative side:  Isaac's really hard to scold, and he's at that age that he needs that from time to time.

The interview went well, so I'm expecting a call as soon as he checks my references.  I'll update when I know more.  It's great if I get it because the job is less than 10 minutes away from where I live.  On the negative side, no meetings at Dunkin' Donuts with Andree.   Sad

Do they sound OK?

Yes.  A good vinyl technically can sound as good as a CD.  A CD is a digital approximation of the sound, albeit a very good one, while a good quality vinyl is an analog reproduction.  The only problem:  each time you play a vinyl, it wears just a little more, so the quality does degrade over time.

Are they cheaper than CDs?

Depends.  Older ones at a thrift store are a lot cheaper.  I saw Stevie Wonders "Innervisions" on CD for $15.99.  I bought it on vinyl for $1.95, and it sounds great.

Newer vinyls tend to be more collectors items and thus more expensive.  The "All That You Can't Leave Behind" vinyl that I saw at my local music store was going for around $25.  "Hail to the Thief" in vinyl was going for about the same amount.  I'm not a real vinyl collector, so I'll stick with my CDs, thanks.

Why buy vinyl?

I don't know...it's kind of neat having an album in its original format I think.

Oh, I got two new vinyls today.  Yes - Yessongs and a bunch of Italian opera.  Funny story...I tried to play the opera records and figured out when the vocals came in that I need a faster RPM record player (mine does 33 and 45...I think they're in 72 or whatever the next step up was).  Beautiful discs, though, and very hard and sturdy...not very flexible as is typical with the medium.
