My fiance left yesterday to spend the next 9 months in Germany, studying history and German through the Fulbright program. We're both confident that this is where God wants each of us right now, and that He's orchestrated things this way for a reason, but sometimes that doesn't make the difficulty of adjusting to the separation any easier. So I would really appreciate prayer, that we would both be able to have peace in the situation.

Thanks for sharing, bethany, and I'll remember you both in my prayers. And hey, just think of this as further proof that you've got yourself a great man-- everyone knows, after all, that German students are awesome.

Indeed. To quote The Simpsons, "No one who speaks German could be an evil man."

Man, that has to be tough.  I hated being apart from my former fiance for even two weeks (she lived in Ohio, I live in NC).  I'll be sure to remember you both.

I will pray for you and your fiancee. 9 months apart is a long time to be away from anyone, let alone your fiancee.

Maybe he'll come back with an accent.  Smiley

Thanks, everyone. I really do very much appreciate the prayers and the kind words. We've got one whole week of transatlantic separation under our belts now. One down...uh...a depressingly high number yet to go. Smiley It's been a very up and down, mostly difficult adjustment, but God is very faithful. I know He'll be teaching us both a lot this year, and preparing us for our future together, so that is comforting.

On Tuesday I had lunch with one of my best friends, who had just gotten back from studying in Germany. She was only gone for about two months, but the separation was still really... well, I noticed she was gone, anyway.

I'm guessing your experience is in a slightly different ballpark. But, um, I can kinda empathize.  Embarrassed
