Well, we had a couple interceptions, a few good throws, and honestly I think we played decently. It's just those 21 unanswered points that the Jackets racked up in the first quarter, and the fact that we had to settle for 3 twice in the red zone.

Plvarona, your jackets smashed the Hokies. Maybe if we hadn't played like a Division 1-AA team for the first quarter it would have been different, but ouch ... Well, good job to the GA Tech guys.
*grins* I actually didn't get to see much of the game due to family plans that day. I did a quick score check toward the end of the first quarter, saw it was 21-0 Jackets and I almost fainted. I knew we were probably going to play better than last year's drubbing, but I wasn't expecting us to return the favor. That was a big win for us, though. Now I'm hoping we don't have a major letdown against Ralph Friedgen and Maryland. Since Ralph made a name for himself as GT's offensive coordinator, you just know he'll have his team fired up for that game. It also helps to have the best wide receiver in the nation in Calvin Johnson. He kills any team he plays. Darn right! We are very fortunate to have him, if you especially consider he primarily chose GT so he could be close to his family. My other alma mater also avenged a loss from last year as Florida was able to get past Alabama. If I remember correctly, LSU is next, so that should be good.

You are correct. LSU-Florida is this coming week. It will be a very good game. Chris Leak needs to have a near-flawless game because the LSU defense is intense.

UNC had a great week!! They were idle, and, therefore, couldn't lose as usual.
Uh, just asking - should Iowa have even bothered showing up against OSU?

I'm kind of bummed ... my Dawgs are 5-0, but it's a very unimpressive 5-0. I hope they turn up the heat this week, or the game against Tennessee Saturday could get ugly.

They usually show up for big games. They've looked lazy these past few weeks. I'm a little nervous too...

*sigh* Just when I got my hopes up, the Vols crushed 'em. With the season half-over, here's my stab at the top 10 for now:
1. Ohio State 2. Florida (and if they finish the run of Bama/LSU/Auburn/UGA undefeated, they'll have earned it!) 3. Southern California 4. Michigan 5. Tennessee 6. Texas 7. California 8. Louisville 9. Boise State 10. Auburn

Well, the Gators came up big against LSU, beating them soundly. Hopefully, there's enough in the tank for Auburn next week. After all, it's a good bet that Auburn is going to bring their "A" game after they got knocked around by Arkansas, so I'm a bit wary about that game right now.
As for the Jackets, I'm not surprised that Maryland gave them a good game, and we certainly survived a scare there. Clemson is up next in two weeks and that is going to be huge. In fact, some people are saying both teams could meet again in the ACC Championship game, but we'll see.

And Auburn falls off the ranks.
Looks like the Ohio State-Michigan game will make the Championship Game against...
Florida? (If it can get past Georgia and Auburn, and dominate the rest of the weaker teams) USC? (If it beats ND in convincing fashion and doesn't get upset along the way) West Virginia? (If it gets past Louisville and Rutgers, and ND and Auburn beat USC and Florida) Texas? (If all the undefeated teams [sans winner of OSU/Michigan] lose) Louisville? (If all the other undefeated teams [sans winner of OSU/Michigan] lose) Notre Dame? (If it slaughters everyone else, including USC... and Florida and WVU [and maybe even Louisville] lose) Auburn? (If it beats Florida, USC loses to Notre Dame but it is close, Notre Dame struggles along the way, and West Virginia loses to Rutgers or Louisville)
I would love to see OSU-ND rematch, but OSU-USC and OSU-Auburn sound exciting too.

Auburn would have to win out and win the SEC championship game to get a chance. However, they aren't even in first place in their own division of the SEC at the moment so they best hope for some losses by other conference teams.

Well, Auburn sure looked sweet today. Florida is now out of the championship running unless they get a miracle. If the Razorbacks drop a game, I could easily see Auburn going to the National Championship game if WVU and Louisville falter. I think Auburn will be back to 6th or 7th in the rankings.

Yeeesh. That was one painful 2nd half last night if you were a Florida fan. There were way too many mistakes on our part, especially that pass Chris Leak threw right to an Auburn DB in the 4th quarter. (Blech.) The Gators deserved to lose that one. Oh well. It's not like it was a loss to Vanderbilt or anything like that.
Things might not be much better for the Jackets next week, especially if Clemson looks as good as they did on Thursday night.

I think the back-to-back shutouts over bad offenses (South Carolina's O was truly awful before finding their current QB) made us forget just who we lost this year.

Just curious, but is this like a "Who is playing the best football right now" list? Cause otherwise, why would California be ahead of Tennessee, who mauled them earlier this year? Also, I know West Virginia hasn't really played anyone, but they are undefeated and haven't played a close game all year.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was going for. I think Cal has really clicked since that UT loss. Also, the order of these top 10, (right now) isn't really important, since they are all very good teams. I did forget about West Virginia, though they'll impress me a lot more when (if) they beat Louisville.

Ouch! Clemson put a good beating on the Jackets Saturday night. That was just painful to watch, to say the least. If there's any solace, the Jackets still have a legitimate chance to at least make it to the ACC Championship game as long as they beat Miami next week. It helps that the rest of the division has struggled this season.

GT beat VT, VT beat Clemson, Clemson beat GT. How's that affect your top 10, RCJ? I think VT's victory over Clemson is like Stalin's victory over Hitler: Hitler had the better army, Stalin had the better weather. It was about 8 degrees and drizzling at game time, and coming from South Carolina, I don't know that the Clemson players were at all used to that.

First, about the Florida-Georgia game, I'm cautiously optimistic about it. I realize Georgia has struggled mightly on offense this season, but at the same time this is such a big game you just know they will be bringing their "A" game to Jacksonville. Furthermore, if Chris Leak makes the kinds of decisions tomorrow that he did against Auburn then the Dawgs definitely have a chance. I still like the Gators' chances to win, although I don't think it's going to be the blowout that so many pundits are predicting.
I can't believe Clemson got smoked last night. Suddenly their chances of an ACC title have taken a major hit, and who knows? Maybe that opens the door for GT to land a BCS bowl berth? (Then again, like taking on Boston College or someone like that will be all that much easier.) Of course, this is all moot if GT does not take care of business against Miami tomorrow.

Who doesn't? Seriously, I feel their pain a little bit. Virginia Tech has also taken some major hits lately from players misbehaving. Not quite to Miami's level yet, but honestly I know how a couple kids who make poor decisions can reflect badly on a program. I don't respect Larry Coker in the same way I do Frank Beamer, but I'm sure he didn't encourage at least the more egregious behavior. That said, I hope the Jackets trounce the 'Canes .

Well, the Jackets didn't administer the beatdown of Miami I was hoping for, but they at least got the win so that will suffice. The Jackets' schedule is ridiculously easy down the stretch, so unless they really screw up, they'll keep Miami out of the ACC Championship game. Of course, this is the Jackets were talking about, and they have been known to lose games they're not supposed to, so we're not out of the woods just yet.
As for that game over in Jacksonville, I'm happy about the Gators win, while at the same time I'm not surprised the Dawgs hung in there as long as they did. I knew they weren't going to be a pushover. The Gators schedule also sets up nicely to at least make it to the SEC Championship game.
So overall, this was a very good weekend for my alma maters.

This was yet another good weekend for my alma maters. Even though the Gators looked shaky in the 2nd half against Vanderbilt, they were able to hold on and win. Couple that with a Tennessee loss and the Gators are going to their first SEC Championship game since 2000! (FYI, that was my first year in grad school at UF.) The Jackets also took a major step forward in getting to the ACC Championship game by beating a pesky N.C. State team. Now just one more ACC win and they're going to Jacksonville.

With the VT win over Miami, I've got to be wondering where our team went midseason. Although I bear no animosity towards the Jackets, it would have been nice for them to lose to Miami, thus creating a three-way tie for first place in the ACC (which VT would probably win the tiebreaker for). Well, at least we have our pride.

I think the ACC is realizing the mistake they made in wanting to increase the number of schools for football for revenue and championship game sake. The overall football product in the conference has diminished as well as the quality of basketball. It's just not the same in basketball now that teams don't play every other team due to the rotating schedule.
